Sonic 296 Posted June 12, 2006 Well I've learnt something over the past couple of days. People like things dark, dismal and gloomy. I relaunched CNCNZ.com with a brighter than usual style on Friday only to discover people liked our more traditional darker look for the site. So I spent 2 more days (off and on) tweaking things and trying out new colours, turning the brightness down as far I wanted to go. The result, well look around, it's darker, it's what the masses wanted. Majority rules in this case. Another key change that I introduced and then changed back was a non-traditional left side bar, not for site navigation but for highlighting key features, again no one really liked the idea apart from C&C King and I. To use a quote from my friend, Chickendippers, "the sidebar on the right just feels natural on CNCNZ". And so with all that said.... I give you CNCNZ.com - The naturally, traditional, darker remix. Guest Rabbit Posted June 12, 2006 So, in reality, you changed a whole bunch for nothing... Sorry for making you work extra, Sonic. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted June 12, 2006 Well I am glad chickendippers agrees with me on the sidebar thing. It just feels natural. Hehe, sorry for the extra work, but we like dark, you gave us that, and now we like it! Yay! Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted June 12, 2006 People just don't like change, perhaps if you increase the brightness slightly every day people won't notice It looks great; I like the news headline font and the way all the sections fit together nicely - that's something I've always liked about your layouts Sonic BTW The First Decade page background isn't working. Guest Rabbit Posted June 12, 2006 Yep, that's confirmed, same problem on my end. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 12, 2006 So, in reality, you changed a whole bunch for nothing... Sorry for making you work extra, Sonic. I wouldn't say for nothing. I was kind annoyed how no one really liked the light style. But the important thing was I "fixed" things up to make the site viewable again. Also, it wasn't really that much work, change a few files, upload them and the site is updated. Most of the work was going back to the drawing board to test new colour schemes. Hypnotist, why did you link to my profile in your reply BTW The First Decade page background isn't working. Fixed it. Remeber no site is ever complete. I'm always tickering and testing new things or looking for problems. Like just now I changed the font sizes a bit in the new updates for quoted text etc..... Share this post Link to post
WhOIsInTeResTed InMyNaMe? 0 Posted June 12, 2006 The site is ok by now, but what is happening to the 2nd page?? , about two days that is offline :?: :? http://www.cncnz.com/page2/ Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 13, 2006 Page2 is offline. I need to redo the entire layout of that page. Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted June 14, 2006 i thought the bright colours were alright. I have no real preference between the lighter or darker versions. Share this post Link to post
GeneralZ 0 Posted June 15, 2006 the poll window squishes the webmaster blog, move it.. i dont like reading a squished up web blog. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 15, 2006 What screen resolution are using? At 1024 x 768 it looks fine. And guess what, the Webmaster Blog is basically the same size as it was in the old layout. It will be a bit squeezed in there if your screen resolution is small, like 800 x 600. Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted June 15, 2006 Kind of going back to your main point about people liking dismal and gloomy, I actually think it's another thing. When creating a webpage, you normally should have a dark background, and bright colours, or a bright background, and dark colours, or hell, do it the google way, and have a white background with the four basic colours... What you seemed to do though at first, is make a bright background, with bright colours... so, Maybe, if you wanted, you could test a brighter scheme, because dark text doesn't make the whole page appear dark, but if you had dark text and a bright background, as you wanted, it would still look nice. Cygnus X-1 12 Posted June 17, 2006 Maybe, but I've seen forums that are created under PhBB(or whatever the hell it is) and the webmasters stick with the generic white and black text look. Its kinda borring. What I like about CNCNZ is the blueness themes. They're different. The CNC10 and EAW themes look cool as well. All we need is a dark green one and we'll be set  Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 17, 2006 Well I was thinking of creating a forum style based on C&C King's Field Commander site. Which features dark green and black. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted June 17, 2006 Not exactly the green I had in mind, but that does look cool-ish. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted June 19, 2006 A green tiberian feel skin would be cool... Though you know what would be far superior? A nice dark red Nod skin instead. lol. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted June 19, 2006 He has a point. Or a red Soviet skin. But I think Nod would come through as darker. I think it may have been evetgamers.net or something like that that had this really cool neanblue and black theme. Share this post Link to post
