Woofna 0 Posted July 2, 2006 I don't really want to spent more than 1000 dollars, but I want it to be able to play some games. I dunno, I am SO clueless in this department, I really need help. I wanna spent aroun 500 dollars for just a general purpose PC. Are Macs any good? Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted July 2, 2006 Macs are HORRIBLE, especially if you want to do any gaming. They're only really great for media stuff. You can build yourself a really nice gaming/general purpose PC for under a thousand, dude. Shop around a bit- there are some great options out there  Share this post Link to post
(ha) crazy 0 Posted July 3, 2006 sorry woofina i can't help i'm in the same boat i hear the dell xps is good  Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted July 3, 2006 Just make sure when you're buying bits and pieces they all are compatiable. Nothing worse than buying a CPU and getting the wrong motherboard... Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 3, 2006 MACs are excellent machines, EXCEPT when it comes to gaming. Mostly because people make games for Windows ( ) Do what they said, buy stuff sepperatley and build your own. Use the comp geeks at the local comp shops for questions about parts compatability. TheBlackOut 7 Posted July 3, 2006 I personally like HP's if you're going to get a pre-built one. Gaming PCs for 500..? Err, you need to build your own if you want that cheap, and even that, it wouldn't be great. 819 bucks... http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/oid/153715...ication.do#tabs It will run BF2 and stuff good, and its DDR 2. Overall a great PC for the price. (And hey, if you ever want to buff up the video card from intergrated, PCI-e x16 slot too.) Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted July 3, 2006 Yah, I thought that is a pretty good computer for the price. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 4, 2006 Same here. *starts ssaving money* although the vid memory looks a tad low..that can be added to via comp settings, right? Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted July 4, 2006 Same here. *starts ssaving money* although the vid memory looks a tad low..that can be added to via comp settings, right? Umm, do you know a lot about computers? Just asking. The video card is fine. My friend has it and hell, he can play BF2 pretty good. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 4, 2006 I meant the comp's allocated mem for vid usage, not the cards themselves. I know a bit about computers, but not a lot. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted July 4, 2006 I'm sorry, but the nVidia 6150 is a HORRIBLE video card if you want to even consider gaming. Besides, in that computer, the 256 mb is shared. Blech. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 4, 2006 See? / I knew there was something about that 250 MB that didnt smell right. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted July 4, 2006 That computer is nice- has all the RAM you need, a very nice processor, decent hard drive space, great operating system... but still, the video performance would give you an aneurysm. For a media center, it would be excellent. Gamers beware! Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted July 4, 2006 im still running a nvidia 5500. it struggles through most games, a few bf2 maps give me alot of trouble though when their full Share this post Link to post

Have you ever used one? I have, and its runs pretty damn good for intergrated. And again, I said you could upgrade it too if you wanted. It has a PCI-e x16 slot... Share this post Link to post

WhOIsInTeResTed InMyNaMe? 0 Posted July 4, 2006 1GB !!!!!!!!!! i still use a computer that has 32MB to play RA2, and a notebook of 128 for the recent games, where i live god is a friend´s 256, but 1GB !!!!!!, well..... $2000 so forget it buy a 256 of video and 1GB of RAM and there you have a computer for at least 3 years more (and an AMD proccesor) Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted July 4, 2006 It isn't. Have you ever used one? I have, and its runs pretty damn good for intergrated. And again, I said you could upgrade it too if you wanted. It has a PCI-e x16 slot... The 6150 is hardly even a step above integrated, which is abysmal at best. No, it is not a good card. I'm currently running a 7600 in my media computer, and an ATI x1900xtx in my gaming rig . Now THOSE are good cards. The 6150 will eek out enough power to do the very basics, but really... it is NOT a performer. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted July 4, 2006 http://aec.cadalyst.com/aec/article/articl...l.jsp?id=324997heres the answer to your dreams  Thats for someone who works in graphics I believe. Like a game developer or something. It isn't. Have you ever used one? I have, and its runs pretty damn good for intergrated. And again, I said you could upgrade it too if you wanted. It has a PCI-e x16 slot... The 6150 is hardly even a step above integrated, which is abysmal at best. No, it is not a good card. The 6150 will eek out enough power to do the very basics, but really... it is NOT a performer. x1900xtx? Bastard. And a 7600 in just your media computer? WTF? Send me something... Though I do love my BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC. I'm telling you, that card is good for intergrated. I've seen and played on it. Its better than the ATi Express 200. And again, I will say, you can always upgrade the videocard. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 4, 2006 That card (in the comp article thing, the $819 comp) is so much better than what I'm using to run C&C and EAW right now. How much is that graphics card that was just mentioned? Share this post Link to post
Renegangsta 0 Posted July 5, 2006 $2,000 which is a lot even for me  Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted July 5, 2006 $2,000 which is a lot even for me  Gangstas ain't rich, so we wouldn't expect you to afford it. - Seriousnessnessity Or you just some white kid who thinks he's gangsta. :| - Sarcasmnessnessity but I want to know kind of. Share this post Link to post
Riparius 0 Posted July 5, 2006 Why to waste 2k when you can get one for about $900, the Geforce 7950 GTX 2. You can get two of those for the price of one ATI. And Crossfire only supports 2 cards? Put 4 Geforce 7950 GTX 2-s in SLi and..... you need a big power supply. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted July 5, 2006 ...and you're instantly bottlenecked by your processor  All you really need, even with the best processor out (the Athlon 64 FX60 until Conroe comes out ), is two top of the line GPUs in SLI or Crossfire to maximize performance. For what I have, the Athlon 64 4000 (basically an FX53), a single x1900xtx gpu is doing just fine. Much more gpu power, and I really wouldn't see that much of a performance gain.
