"Carnage", by Woofna

This is (the infant stages of) a book I have written a few days ago, and I feel obliged to share it with you all, even though I am certain many will view it as an abomination. And rightly so.

To defend my abomination, and make myself unlike EALA, I will confess the following:

This book uses many Westwood concepts such as GDI and the ORCA, as well as Red Alert concepts, and real world existances, such as the UN, with my own twist. I know that I've made mass inaccuracies; this is not ignorance for I have read that CNC Canon. I only wanted to create my own universe with these elements.

Due to blatant use of Westwood's concepts which are now property of EALA, I will never publish this book. I suppose I could change names and things to make this sound like the concepts were mine, but due to moral restrictions, I never will. For now and for the rest of it's life, this book is a hobby, a plaything, and it will never create me profit.

I apologize in advance if this offends anyone through my use of Westwood's concepts, in my own little world.

I apologize again for the fact that is the the first book like thing I have ever written, and as such, it is poorly written. It is in it's infant stages and will undergo a LOT of changes, even if it is only one chapter so far. It's already been entirely rewritten twice.

Also, it's a little bloody.

Think I'm flame-proof yet? :(

Chapter 1: "GDI"

A fine mist rose off Lake Erie on Monday, June 17th, 2010. It seemed like it was alive, however sluggish, as it hovered across the hundred mile body of water. It was barely disturbed by the dual jet engines of the ORCA-17, a single machine of a massive defense program.

There were now seventeen ORCAs stationed on Lake Erie alone, patrolling the borders. Rick Orton controlled the 17th of the 17, the most recently assigned one. Yet, he had this aura about him that made him seem like some kind of veteran. His actual rank was Specialist.

Rick a well-known ace pilot with a natural gift. His call sign was “Airwulf”. Few people called him "Rick" or "Rick Orton" or anything that had to do with his name. Airwulf was in love with GDI like most people are in love with a wife. He believed in order. Martial law did not daunt him, because he associated Martial Law with the order of a military base, which he loved. He believed in security. He was a conservative. He voted republican. He supported every war that's been fought. (Except the Civil War) He pretty much believed in everything that pisses off other people. He thrived on conflict. That particular trait makes him a pretty efficient human being, the world was (and is) full of conflict, and he found the right side of it to be on. He did love to argue, and he always argued fiercly with police and normal civilians, as well as people at or below his rank. But only about non-military issues. He never second guessed an order. He was an ideal soldier, and an excellent pilot.

The ORCA was the best piece of machinery that GDI had. And it was good. It was a fusion powered “attack helicopter” that wasn't a helicopter at all. The basic shape of a one-person attack helicopter, comprised of a slim body and tail structure, was complimented by dual vertical-pivot enclosed turbofans, powered by a small nuclear power plant inside the orca. It was beautiful, in it’s own way, and practical to mass-produce. It took off vertically, and flew at fierce speeds of 1,000 knots or more, and it could hover inches above the ground with the grace of a hummingbird. It could do just about anything a car could do--in fact, a common stunt for pilots was to fly down to a road, and operate it extactly like a car; flying inches above the road alongside other cars and trucks, at the posted speed limit, stopping at lights, the whole deal. There was a lack of turn signals that disrupted the realism, but it was still impressive.

GDI stood for Global Defense Initiative. GDI was the UN’s newest toy ... a massive army, nothing like the UN’s own blue helmet infantry, established in late 2007 as a way of keeping peace.

Let's set the differences between GDI and the UN's army right now by example.

In an earlier instance, about 5 years ago, a terrorist-controlled yacht approached a supply depot on the shore of Florida. The UN's Army was currently in control of the depot. They blue helmet soldiers. They attempted to make communications with the yacht, they attempted to stop them with warning shots, they did everything politically correct. Oops. The yacht exploded in a deady cloud of mustard gas. A terrorist regiment from Pakistan had recently located and raided a World War 1 weapons bunker. Mustard Gas was a popular weapon in World War 1. Coincidence? The UN would love you to think so. Makes it seem like maybe they didn't see it coming. About one hundred people died, and the supplies, mainly food, were entirely unusable. It hardly made the news for some reason ...

That is the UN. The pencil-pushing society that ruled the world.

About 2 years ago,and 3 years after the yacht incident had been forgotten entirely, a terrorist-controlled cargo vessel approached the side of a civilian harbor in Pennsylvania, on Lake Erie. The harbor was the North East Marina. GDI by now had been established, and had secured all the borders surrounding the USA, as well as select other countries. The air was patrolled by A-10 Thunderbolts, and the 5 ORCAs that had been successfully constructed by that time. One such ORCA was now reaching the outskirts of North East. Scans showed that the cargo vessel had nothing but ... cargo. Fertilizer and fuel. To be more specific, Ammonium Nitrate, and Kerosene. Politicians everywhere believe to this day, that perhaps that could have been an innocent (while strangely unregistered and unlicensed) cargo shipment, and that GDI acted harshly. But GDI used common sense instead of politically correct tactics. GDI knew that Ammonium Nitrate, saturated in Kerosene, creates a very effective bomb. The bomb that exploded near the Oklahoma building was comprised of these ingredients.

Within a half hour of it's sighting on local RADAR the Cargo ship reached about five thousand meters' distance from the stone walls of the harbor. It had not responded to any attempts of communication.

It then approached four thousand meters. It was moving at full speed. A boy was fishing off a stone wall, and he looked up to observe the rusty-looking monolithic cargo ship in the distance. It was too big to be on Lake Erie. It looked like an ocean liner. He wondered what was going on and told his dad to look at the "junker" floating towards them. His father looked towards the ship and squinted in the sunlight. At that second, two things happened.

One: The ship contacted the Harbor's control building, and announced it's intentions to destroy the Harbor as an example to the American people that their security was "no better with GDI than it was before", via a text-only transmission. It took 0.521 seconds to transmit. The message also contained the smug remark, that it was too late to do anything, the ship was a large metal monolith, no small arms would stop it, and no one had taken action yet. They thought.

Two: An ORCA unloaded it's entire payload of eighteen small high-explosive unguided rockets into the side of the massive cargo vessel and incinerated it. It was "pretty".

Now, as good as the ORCA's standard rockets were, they would only sink a ship of that size, they wouldn't destroy it. It exploded and incinerated itself violently. The explosion was similar to the destructive capabilites of a few tons of Ammonium Nitrate, saturated in Kerosene fuel for weeks, to create a makeshift bomb. How peculiar.

The GDI was controlled by the UN. The UN was controlled by most of Europe, Russia, America, and other select countries. While many countries had a seat in the UN, these ones had more influence. GDI absorbed and assimilated the armies of these countries. The United States Army was the largest part of GDI, and they controlled most of the resources and technology. They made the ORCA. They paid the bills. GDI was known around the world as “the good guys”. The world was right, GDI was controlled by, and comprised of people with the objective of maintaining world peace, for the prosperity of humanity.

GDI was quickly realized as being necessary. Russia and Ukraine, with North Korea for support, had begun to make what the United States’ President Cheney described as “Steps towards becoming a clear and present danger.”

Therein lies a special irony ...

Russia was a PART of the UN. We're lucky that they never established any kind of control over GDI. GDI was uncorrupt despite Russia's betrayal.

Russia had achieved a massive amphibious landing on the western coast of Canada, a month ago, and still held the beach. A massive counterattack had been attempted, comprised of “expendable” equipment. All airborne, jets and helicopters. Apaches, Raptors, JSFs. A-10s ... things thought only years ago to be the future that were suddenly obsolete with the creation of nuclear powered ORCAs.

The counterattack failed terribly. Millions of dollars of equipment, fuel, and lives were lost. A nation wept. The counterattack, as I’ve said, was made of “expendable” equipment. That was only because the ORCAs were still in production and there weren’t enough of them. We didn’t know it was a suicidial mission. But not one pilot or soldier came back.

They died terrifying deaths. Transmissions came in by the hundreds when they reached the Russian base in Canada. They screamed of black holes on the ground. They screamed of darkness. Several transmissions were comprised of pilots screaming in terror, and comm officers at the base of operations in South Carolina could hear anti-air bullets rip through the fuselage of the aircraft, through the bodies of America's beloved pilots, they could hear their final screams. The average pilot could be heard trying to scream "Mama ... mama!!!" through the bullets in his throat. Officers could hear them choking on their own blood, the grotesque bubbling of a scream drowned in crimson death. They could HEAR them getting shot. Hear them dying. Only some of the sound clips were released to the public. Several Comm Officers who heard the unfiltered carnage that took place on that day have been discharged and admitted to hospitals because of nervous breakdowns. It was beyond terrible. The transmissions were not only horrific, but peculiar. They spoke of odd things, like black holes on the ground, lbeing blind, seeing nothing but darkness and "static". They also spoke of seeing decapitated pilots falling from their planes. It seems the pilots of all the aircraft never saw the enemy. They saw each other and nothing else. Not even the ground. Their RADARs were useless entirely. Several pilots compared the setting to being inside the a black hole. None of it made any sense.

On that day, Rick Orton entered the GDI Air Force and became "Airwulf".

Chapter two: "Caught on-guard."

Edit one: Fixed several typos, still more I'm sure to fix.

Orca is now Fusion-powered, not nuclear-powered.

I meant fusion as opposed to the traditional fission nuclear power.

And I'm sorry it was a boring read.

It wasn't too bad, you just need to work on the sentences flowing together.

Mabye have one section at the beginning explaining the situation/technologies from one person's view, thereby taking out phrases like:

"The GDI was controlled by the UN."

and,

"The UN was controlled by most of Europe, Russia, America, and other select countries."

Those make it seem choopy

I thought it was interesting enough. A real editor would help you. Oh and dude, change the names, then you can use this. It has potential, but choppy sentences arent good. Also the thing about explaining what happened, that can be done in a much more efficient manner, spaced out over 4-5 chapters. A perfect example of this is in The Vampire Earth series. It never dirrectly talks about what happened, but through side comments, reminiscing, and the main character reading a pamphlet, the back story comes to light.
