New C&C 3 Preview at GameSpot

Thanks Sonic - it's d/l as I type.

EDIT:- I started scanning through the gameplay videos and noted that you can see some information on the rare occasions they build something... there was some useful info - like the tripods are worth $3000. So if the harvesters still dump $1400 - it's a good indication of their worth.

I'm compilling the information for sonic...

When you see refinery's cost $2000, war factory's depend on a power plant and refinery - it's really easy to see that the game *does* have that C&C feel.

EA hold the most influence. EA have created about 80% of C&C 3 off their own back. The community have influenced about 15% of the game, and the remaining 5% is feedback that's been met somewhere in the middle.

The best example which is partial of this 5% is probably Tiberium. They created it, we reduced it significantly and without telling the community, EA have put it somewhere in between :haha:

There have been a few other elements which EA have not told the community about that they've reverted half way back to the original design. This is purely because if they don't there will be inconsistencies with future titles. Why have they not told us, cos there's a large minority out there that just won't listen.

As I said in a previous post a while back, community pressure can change a game. And according to the original Westwood staff who are now at petroglyph, the designs the C&C community have influenced change on have actually been for the worse in their eyes. or to quote an ex Westwood designer who was working on C&C 3 before the takeover:

What we see here is a game that looks more like Tiberian Sun 1.5 as opposed to a sequal to Tiberian Sun itself. The C&C community have been a powerful force in ensuring that some of the things we personally designed (that were originally implemented into early EA concepts) for C&C 3 have been disregarded because of the so called "Canon". But the game looks great, there's no denying that!

But nevertheless we see C&C 3 as a great game, and are looking forward to playing the game in our offices for nostalgia reasons. We hope that EA continue to create great C&C titles, and we're happy for them to take C&C in any direction they see fit.

Ironic really. That this community can dangerously change a game beyond even Westwood's intentions.

this is what I was afraid of. Its cool to see community support and all of that, but to be honest, EA has the C&C bible, they know where this is supposed to go, not the fans. If they did everything we said they should do, we would be bored as hell with the game.

Personally, I think for the Expansion EA should ask us oour input, then not use them at all as far as storyline and science/mechanics go

bugs and such should be payed attention to obviously, but leave the cannon to those who posses the C&C bible, not to the lyal fanatics who worship it....or play it rather
