C&C 3's Left/Right Click Issue

Recommended Posts

If you have played the C&C 3 demo you would have noticed the change with the left click and right click controls. The switch to right click to move your units has annoyed many fans, thankfully Predator is on the case and has addressed the matter with this news.

Guys cool down, we will discuss this more in our next podcast why the clicking convention is switched.

That said... we are going to discuss implementing alternate mouse setup in patch 1.01 for the game as soon as it ships. Do not fear, we fully understand how important this is to you guys, but there are design reason and functionality reasons for the reason its currently switched. Its very easy to get to used to, but like most hardcore C&C fans, we know how important your mouse setup is and we intend to do everything we can to put in alternate mouse setup in our first patch.

I will admit it bothered me the first few games I played in the demo but like most things you get used to it, however should the option of switching back to the original control method finds its way back into the game I would most likely use that.

I think people should just get used to it. EAW took a bit to get used to, but that worked out fine, other RTS such as Sudden Strike had the right click system, and as of late that seems to be a bit more predominating.

Not that it matters that much, but for those who remember.....for those who will never forget.....reset your mice in patch 1.01 for C&C3!!!

No. C&C has that and always has. Its one of the many unique things about C&C. Sure, its a little thing, but without all the little things, it just ruins it.

I was wondering why I was clicking weirdly and stuff.. Though I didn't realize that switched it until thats what people said.

I can't see what all the fuss is about. All RTS games these days use the right click interface, and it's considered a standard in the Genre.

I didn't give it a second thought. Being a heavy RTS player, my first instinct was to right click to move my units. Just because it's C&C, why should left clicking be an issue?

I'll be using right click for the full game. I don't have an issue with it, since it'll be the only game on the market that allows the obselete left click method anyway.

Its an issue because its EA. People are just finding fault because its an EA product. If I see another post comparing C&C 3 to Supreme Commander I'm going to scream!

wasnt there a feature in Generals where you could set the pointer to the right or left click on the mouse?

I don't think so, but I might just never have bothered

There was with the BfME franchise as well. But as Predator said there's a reason why it's like this. I've said this many times before but EA need to say no sometimes to the general community and not bow to the pressure.

Community leaders like us need to speak for the community as a whole. EA need to have a small collective voice that focusses primarily on the leaders views and what we accumilate.

This is the way Petroglph work. Over at their forums, we came up with a really interesting concept, about the way a particular thing works. But Petro said no and stood their ground. Despite the fact that the whole community was crying out for something similar.

But we are the first port of call with opinions and feedback. While they listen to the major voices, we have the last word based on what's said, and even then, we are not guarenteed to have it passed.

EA need to toughen up a little.

Well I'm used to right-clicking, I probably think it's better, but I still had issues with de-selection of units... like when I build waypoints for the buildings.

By default I try to learn the default configuration, so that if on the off chance I'm playing on someone else's rig, I'm not disadvantaged by unfamilar keys.

It's a real distraction for me when I started playing the old games, when I couldn't do something or other... but I'll live.

Like King said the majority are not always right.

Most RTS games have the right click interface. I don't see the big issue...

Its not really. After playing EA for months I went back to RA2 online (stupidly) and got pwned a couple of times before getting the interface down again. Course now the change is easy to make back and forth.

why change back though, if you're already used to it? May as well adapt, since all future RTS' will use the right click method (until Cybernetic VR comes out)

well look at the dinosaurs, good stuff, until they didn't evolve too well, then they all died.

"Those that don't evolve, perish"

not that having a left click will kill of C&C or anything

Like I already said most RTS's have the good old right click interface. So should C&C. Its not as though the left click interface was one of its main traits anyway. So I don't know why some people are so upset...

oh well. I like the left click on the old games, cause it fits, but for anything new, I prefer the right click method, I think its actually a bit more economical.

And in those fast paced games, its all about economy of the interface 8)
