Command & Conquer 3 Faction Feature @ IGN

IGN have posted a new Command & Conquer 3 article taking a detailed look at the units for all three factions in the game. Starting with the GDI, followed by Nod and the Scrin over the next few weeks. These Developer Faction Overviews are written by Jason Bender. And not only do you get unit descriptions you get some inside info from Matt Bitton (Art Direction) where he describes the process of designing how each unit should look. Here is a sample.

 

Over the next three weeks we'll be posting up run downs of each of the three factions found in Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. Two of the factions will be pretty familiar to long time Tiberium universe fans while the third is a new alien faction that will undoubtedly become a fan favorite.

 

The first of the features focuses on the grunting bulldog of the bunch, the Global Defense Initiative. These guys aren't particularly sneaky or fancy, but bring some powerful weapons to the game with their heavy armor. The Mammoth Tanks are among the most powerful, sturdy and well rounded units in Command & Conquer 3 so players who fancy the straight forward punch in the nose type of faction will likely spend a lot of time with the scrappy power of the GDI.

That was interesting to read. When I first saw the engineer in-game I thought it was a robot - which was weird - then I realised it was a suit which just looked corny.

 

Having the apc only take 1 squad of rifleman makes sense, but only one engineer is a little hard to take. It's kinda the same thing with buildings only taking 3 squads... sure that's 15 soldiers but still a little weird.

 

I really need to get in some practice... I still suck at hard!!! ;P

OMG I can train robocops at my barracks! And they throw grenades too!!!! OMG HOW COOL!!!! :shock:

Yeah me to, AI has been kicking my ass, cleaned me up damn quick in the my last game.... I consider this a good thing though. Just think how boring it would be if you steam rolled the AI on hard or brutal everytime.

Ahh yeah, they are called Grenadier Squads :look:

I actually learned something from that GDI unit info pages... rocket-assisted grenades!

ok.....whats with all of the "well its only 40 years in the future, so it has to look realistic....: stuff. Did not Tiberian Sun come before Tiberium Wars? Did not that game come loaded with futuristic weaponry??

 

I liked the art part about the Juggernaught too, never mind that it is a modified carryover from FS :P
