Thierry 0 Posted May 26, 2007 Is it me, or is the only 'tactic' being used the one involving the spam of only one or two units? Namely Mammoths for GDI, Stealth Tanks for Nod and PAC's/Tripods for Scrin. Does anyone even bother to use all the other units? I play mostly as Scrin and I'm stumped by the fact that all other Scrin players I've met do nothing but spam the PAC and the Tripod, I've rarely seen the Gun Walker, Seeker, Corruptor or the Devourer Tank, even though they are awesome units. Not that I don't use the PAC and the Tripod, but I usually have a strongly varied army so that anything that comes to it can be taken care of. Come on people, there is more to TW then to just spam the same unit :? Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted May 26, 2007 Not really. As there isn't much need to build additional units, its just the way the game is balanced at the moment.. I mean I can win most games with just scrops and venoms. Thats what 2 units in an entire tech tree? Hopefully with the release of the 1.05 patch in the next few days (lets hope...) there will less of the general spam... Hell I might even end up building an avatar! Though I have my doubts.... Share this post Link to post
Thierry 0 Posted May 26, 2007 Avatars cost way too much for what they can do, they needed the upcoming change. Share this post Link to post
Redmond Boyle 0 Posted May 26, 2007 I always use Aircraft Spam when I play with the scrin...avatars and basic tanks with nod and mammoths with orcas with GDI. Share this post Link to post
nugg0t 0 Posted May 30, 2007 I like getting the Mastermind on a hot-key, wormholing it into the back of an enemy base by the powerplants when they are attacking me, then quickly selling off as many as I can to take out their defences before selling their more valuable buildings, or taking the barracks and making engineers to capture everything left. One minute they think they have me pinned, then they realise most of their base is gone and I have loads of cash, lol! Share this post Link to post
KyleBrogan 0 Posted May 31, 2007 See, now those are the kind of strats that make the game more fun. Being able to be a little creative with things instead of just dealing with a million Scorpions coming at you game after game makes it infinitely more interesting, instead of just being redundantly repetitive. I know that people like to knock Generals, but I really enjoyed that aspect of that game. (I've always been and still am a Generals nut. Or a general nut, depending on who you ask. <grin>) There always seemed to be a number of different ways to approach each situation, and while there were always certain staples to each army, tactics could change on the fly. It's one of the reasons that I was so adamant about trying to get Zero Hour to work with Vista. With C&C3, if I look like I'm losing, I just realize that I'm not building enough tanks. Strategy in this game seems all about the short game, as opposed to tactical strikes. If I blow apart the Construction vehicle, I really haven't halted production too much. Even if I blow out the power, it doesn't really cause a lot of problems for the player. It almost seems as if the "strategy" of the game has been relatively narrowed. I'm excited for what this new patch is going to do, and hopefully it'll live up to its hype. Hopefully it's going to make this game more interesting, and reintroduce strategy back into the C&C universe. If not, well, I guess I could always just keep playing Zero Hour. nugg0t 0 Posted May 31, 2007 Well, as my friend said, there's too many cheap ways to win in this game. Dawn of War 40k and the exapnsions (Dark crusades is most recent one, very good) are very well balanced. Recent balances have made it one fot he fairest games I've ever played. Everyone said the team I chose, Necrons, was overpowered. But I always lost. Then they made them weaker in some ways, stronger in others, and I had to change my tactics a bit. Now for the first time I've been winning, my first victory being in a 5 player LAN last weekend. As for C&C3, there's the mothership cheaps with Scrin (signal transmitter next to enemy base, deploy MS, start dropping lasers. Or the buzzer/drone/other unit cheap with the portal makingthem glowing timebombs. Or engineer rushes, or engineer rushes with wormholes for Scrin. Or building your power and defence posts out into the tiberium, or building them into enemy bases, or taking out someone's resources via harvesters and refineries. There are jsut too many ways to play dirty in this game. It's less about warfare and military tactics, and more about who can **** who the fastest. Plus, if you're Scrin and you can get your airforce up, you generally win. The only way I have lost with Scrin was when I had a max-difficulty steamroller AI player next to me in an 8 player LAN game (other 6 were humans), and they stremed in over 100 rocketeers and scorpion tanks. I killed 63 of them, but for every 5 I killed 5 more would get a rocket hit on one of my devastators, and eventually I was killed. The guy who made the server put himself on the other end of the map, the bastard. I got stuck right next to a rusher. He knew I was his biggest threat! Share this post Link to post
