C&C Reborn Will Be Stand Alone

Recommended Posts

Good news for the C&C Reborn team. They have received permission from EA to make C&C Reborn a stand alone game, just like like the latest release of Red Alert - A Path Beyond is. In short, what this means is that you won't need own the original C&C Renegade or have it installed to play C&C Reborn. More info can be found in this thread on the C&C Reborn forums.

Personally, I think this is great news. It shows EA care about our modding communities and it gives all the talented modders out there some well deserved recognition.

Well considering the example of APB which is also standalone... Renegade would be required to use the Westwood Online/XWIS system of connecting to an online game. But the good fellows at APB have put out a 'direct connect' app that will allow you to get around that minor inconvenince (of not owning the game or having it installed). So it's not required, but less hassles for you to connect through their lobby system.

Although I think the current version of APB Beta is experiencing problems with both XFIRE and WOL/XWIS... almost requiring some people to use the direct connect method until both apps can fix the bugs.

Anyway, my point is, I'm sure there are good group of people at Reborn who will also provide a similar connection method so that you don't require Renegade to install.

A very long winded way of saying "most probably... no"
