You Want Mod Coverage.... You Got It!

Recommended Posts

A quick site related blog here. You would seen in the first week of the new year that our coverage of C&C mods has increased, especially considering what it used to be, basically nothing. Apparently many people like mods and want news about them, I've also taken some "feedback" from a well known C&C community modder who e-mailed me asked the following question.....

I was just doing a quick browse at CNCNZ and realized something, you guys very rarely post about C&C3 or Zero Hour mods......... Why is it that one of the larger C&C sites pretty much ignores the RTS C&C mods most of the time?

I was honest and e-mailed this well known C&C community modder back with my reasons why, but I won't reveal them here. But lets just say I woke up a little and realised that mods are big part of our community and they deserve coverage.

What about the "render or model preview" updates, I'm undecided about those but we'll will see how it plays out.

More mod news is good. Before i came to cncnz i always liked all the mod news over at planetcnc. Then again it was during a period where there was no other news anyway

CNCDen has always been my source of mod news if I needed a mod fix. Seeing CNCNZ take a more aggressive approach with mod news is always good and hopefully will attract modders and spark more interest in modding.

I think mods play a vital part of any gaming community...

We're fortunate that we have active franchise that is producing new official/licensed/canonical content, so we'll always have fresh meat to digest. This should always take priority. But without mods, what other news is there? Pretty much all that is left is patch/balance/replay discussion or fan based content like tiberium legos. We'd be having leftovers every night of the week. Or am I missing something?

Anyway, a weekly community round-up of mod news as you've done before is quite adequate and you should strive to continue with it.

There's nothing wrong with developing personality in fansites... so, it's also okay if you choose not actively promote the entire modding community. You can opt out by including a link to someone else's site periodically for 'all the latest mod' news when you plug APB or whichever mod takes your fancy.

I guess that's a question for the objective of your site.

Bottom line - more mod news is good!

I like the mod coverage idea, but the models/renders always seem to clog up the news and take up space imo ;)

When news is slow and the same news stays on the page for days it also get stale. Models could help relieve some of that.

Yeah that's the vibe I would suggest, renders etc as needed due to other news options. But y'know renders should really be only shown under the same rules as fan art... if it's really good and worth mentioning!
