I am currently posting on my laptop on stolen wireless.

 

I have a Dell Latitude 530 with a few upgraded specs. 2.0 gHz dual core, 2GB of RAM, integrated video, integrated wireless/Ethernet and a 120GB hard drive. It's pretty bad ass for a freebie a school.

 

And I almost forgot, a big bonus is that I have XP instead of Vistaids!

It's a 4:3 resolution 15 inch. I can only do 1024x768 on it. XD

its amazing how microsoft can stuff up an os this much, did they do trials or anything because i know alot of people who hate vistaids and are downgrading (well really upgrading) to xp. the two last people i know with vista are my cousin (who uses his computer nearly never) and my mates family computer (but they all have xp laptops that they use instead). the only point in microsoft releasing vistaids is to make more money selling xp

I used Vista here at school and it's not quite as bad as everyone says. I don't intend to use it for my "fun" activities because that's what I have XP for.

Vista is not that bad, it as some annoying things though like User Account Control. I turn it off yet Vista bitches at me to turn it back. The idea of turning it off in the first place was to eliminate all the prompts and warnings.

 

Most people have negative comments about Vista simply because its a Microsoft product. Or they have tried running it on a computer that id below minimum spec. You know the people who think its bull**** that Vista won't their 1.2 Ghz Celeron with 512 MB RAM.

the little things like that are what annoy me about vista, and why would you try to upgrade a 1.2 Ghz Celeron with 512 MB RAM to vistaids? you would think they would realise they needed a new one as soon as they used someone elses

 

i hear so much about the downsides to vistaids but can someone on cncnz tell me the good points (if there are any worth mentioning) of having vistaids instead of xp?

Only a handful of people are allowed to use Vistaids. Julbri, you are not one of them.

 

Anyway... Vista's not so bad with SP1. Actually somewhat more usable with it. May get a copy of Vista for my next desktop.

so are you saying you would prefer vista with sp1 for everyday useage? thats fair enough, i mean windows could have done alot worse when they created vista

Yes, that word is very exclusive.

 

Anyway, yes, Vista SP1 is very usable. Microsoft seems to have listened to our rantings enough to fix a few things that annoyed everyone. I still don't want to switch just yet but I'll get another machine just for Vista.

how practical is it to partition a hard drive to have two operating systems (if you have enough space) or have two hard drives with different operating systems to boot from?

 

but would you rather have an upgraded operating system based off xp (usability wise) or vista with sp1?

I'd dual boot with different hard drives for smoother use but you can partition just as easily and do the same thing.

 

I'd go with an upgraded XP obviously but we don't have that option. Vista SP1 is the next step.

In my opinion microsoft should have brought out more service packs for XP before creating vista but i geuss we couldnt change that unless we worked in windows and even then we would have to be high up to change anything

They actually lose money on them, because they will send you out a DVD FOR FREE to update too.
