EA Accidentally Announces Command & Conquer 4 Early

Recommended Posts

Most of the community were expecting an official announcement of Command & Conquer 4 later this month. But it would seem that who ever updates the Twitter page for EA's UK PR team has accidentally let the cat of the bag a tad early. In an effort to cover things up the Twitter page for EA's UK PR team has been protected. Here;s the full story from IGN.

EA Accidentally Announces Command & Conquer 4

Boy, they just can't keep a secret, can they?

US, July 8, 2009 - In the latest in a series of pre-mature proclamations, EA's UK PR team let slip that Command & Conquer 4 is currently under development. The news and links to an as-yet unavailable press release was discovered on the team's protected Twitter page earlier today. Though many gamers had been expecting such an announcement, based not only on the strength of the franchise but also some recent surveys by EA, this mention on Twitter seems to be a bit ahead of schedule. Or maybe that's just what they want us to think.

Here's a screen shot of what was posted on Twitter.

Unfortunately the link to the press release doesn't work any more. So I guess its official now, Command & Conquer 4 is the next game. But I don't expect to hear any other reaction from EA about this yet. Another short story about this can be found at Joystiq.

Yeah all the major gaming sites have it covered now.

Thinking back each time a new C&C game is expected the announcements always seem to be "leaked" early. Meaning they probably want them jumping the gun or something like that.

Great! I love when they screw up :) And yes, it seems to happen every time.

Glad that it's confirmed, but I wonder if it's going to be called Command & Conquer 4 or if its going to have a second title. (like Kanes Wrath for an example)

Details like that could be in the press release, that we will have to wait for now, it was apparently linked to in the original "tweet". And it has now mysteriously disappeared ;)

Not so mysterious imo. It was a mistake so they have to rethink things for a little while.

Btw isn't it about time for a "C&C4 forum tab" ? :)

When the news comes through that C&C 4 is official a forum will be created for it.

I think the early leak was deliberate to stir up the market and the community. To me its more of a marketing strategy, first "leak" a little, deny everything, next, force all sites to remove the leak. Give some time for the community to stir some sh*t up, then BOOM! Official announcement. Been there, seen it.

Let's hope its not a true MMO based game, or else I'll probably skip it.

Its not. It just has strong RPG elements. Commend them for trying something different this time.

And hope it's not the end of the C&C storyline...

This is the end of the Tiberium storyline. Think of it like how Bungie said Halo 3 was the final chapter of that story arc.

There are many threads in C&C, but Tiberium *is* the story.

The Tiberium universe may come to an end, but I hope the franchise isn't going to stop there, especially there's still Red Alert or create a brand new universe. And oh no, NOT Generals, do you want to gamble the franchise into disgrace again? Even after many years has passed, will China & Germany forgive EA?

After C&C 4 I'd like another Red Alert game. Failing that, some sort of new spin off universe that has nothing to do with Tiberium/RA/Generals. Especially Generals.... no more Generals games. There is nothing to continue there.

Agreed. 'Sides, WC3 has very strong RPG elements, but that was still fun, wasn't it?

The RPG element I remember from WC3 is the hero abilities, they gain much stronger ability & increase in level. But what I hate most is when they're level 1, even some 3 basic soldiers can kill your hero. So NOT realistic, and if using C&C formula, a hero should be able to kill all 3 unless is outnumbered like at least 6 or so.

Yeah, It would be awesome to see a complete new story and universe created by EA, but still keep the C&C RTS spiritto it. except for WW2 stuff, Iv'e had it with these retarded games.

No no no, NO WWII, I hate that genre, the only WWII game I play is Valve's Day of Defeat, no others! And EA better NOT look into it, they can use that on their Battlefield & other FPS series, but NOT the C&C series.

She's a female C&C hardcore fanatic who has met Joe Kucan and the crew. An insider? I need answers!
