  1. About half an hour ago, Jim Vessella posted an update on the progress with Command & Conquer: Remastered and Red Alert: Remastered on the C&C subreddit, which we bring you in its entirety:
  2. Run everything as administrator. The fixed launchers deal with registry files among else, so they need admin privileges.
  3. This video alone will tell the story. C&C 1 and Red Alert 1 are the first to get remasters, Frank Klepacki is back, and Petroglyph Games is involved. More info here.
  4. You can't decline what you're not invited for, genius.
  5. What you see in the screenshot above is the assets\published\layouts\layouts.sb file from the Command & Conquer: Rivals APK file (APK is the standard application package format for Android, for those who don't know). You're more than welcome to look at that file if you don't believe what we're about to unveil. "Hidden" between part-encrypted and part-plaintext data are some strings. Strings that read "Get ready for the biggest sense of pride and accomplishment yet! Lootbox with your friends! Lootbox with your friends' lootboxes! Lootboxes everywhere!!". This is a direct mockery of the public reaction to EA's lootbox-favouring practices, and a direct reference to the infamous "sense of pride and accomplishment" statement from the most downvoted Reddit post in history, made of course by a DICE developer late last year. I am afraid that I must say that I've received private messages with reports about this as early as the first pre-alpha release from 9 June 2018. It's really sad how AAA publishers see their consumers, and how they act like they can do anything without consequence.
  6. Do you even know me? ...what's this mean?
  7. Oh I've had dealings with them, that's the reason why.
  8. It's 11 December, and if you've been paying attention, you'll know that it's time for the Top 100 lists in ModDB's Mod of the Year 2018 and IndieDB's Indie of the Year 2018 awards! Here, the voting process for the mods which will reach the top 10 is even simpler - go to the main pages for the Top 100 mods and Top 100 indies, open the category you wish and click the big Vote button next to the mods you wish to support. As is tradition, Command & Conquer has numerous projects listed, which just goes to show how dedicated our community still is. In the Mod of the Year 2018, the following released mods have reached the Top 100: Tiberian Sun: Dawn of the Tiberium Age, Twisted Insurrection (both standalone) Yuri's Revenge: Mental Omega APYR, YR-Red Resurrection Zero Hour: C&C Generals Zero Hour Enhanced, C&C: Shockwave Chaos, C&C Untitled, Contra, Deep Impact, NProject Mod, Operation: Firestorm, Rise of the Reds, The End of Days Tiberium Wars: Tiberium Essence Kane's Wrath: One Vision In the Mod of the Year 2018, the following upcoming mods have reached the Top 100: Tiberium Wars: Evolutions: Real Time Strategy Evolved, Tiberian Sun Rising Red Alert 3: C&C Generals Evolution In the Indie of the Year 2018, the following released indies have reached the Top 100: Expansive Civilian Warfare Red Alert: A Path Beyond Renegade-X Tiberian Sun Reborn In the Indie of the Year 2018, the following upcoming indies have reached the Top 100: Battle for Dune: War of Assassins Red Alert 2: Apocalypse Rising
  9. Full Throttle Remastered free for 46 more hours as part of GOG's Winter sale: https://www.gog.com/
  10. In areas where it's past midnight (including most of Europe at the time of posting), Command & Conquer: Rivals is out on Android and iOS. For what it's worth.
  11. Very odd. I am able to download it, and play it once I dismiss the 1000th warning that my phone is unsupported and performance might be affected. You may have to install Google Play Games if you've removed it.
  12. My phone is still unsupported but I can still press Continue on the warning. "A fool and his money are soon parted."
  13. Site staff, regulars and core community leaders who want to try the game out first hand (literally, lol) can join the "CNCNZcom Official" alliance. Don't take this as my personal or the site's support for the game, just as a space that you can use with at least one familiar face.

  15. Our friends over at W3D Hub have decided to celebrate the recent announcement of classic C&C remasters with a series of events this week. Finish among the top 3 players with the best screenshots in Interim Apex on the 7th, Red Alert: A Path Beyond on the 8th, or Expansive Civilian Warfare (ECW) on the 9th of December to win not only a copy of C&C: The Ultimate Collection on Origin, but also one of the six awesome poster designs of your choosing (first come, first served) by @CCHyper. More information can be found in this post on their forums.

  17. Everyone who follows mods remotely regularly knows that December means one thing - DBolical's annual Mod of the Year and Indie of the Year awards! The voting process is easy - simply go to the ModDB/IndieDB profile of the project you want to vote for, click on Vote Now, and you're done! You have until 11 December to do so, at which time the Top 100 mods and Top 100 indies will be unveiled, which will have their own voting process afterwards. On the 22nd, the Editors' Choice will be published, followed by the Players' Choice for unreleased projects on the 27th, and on the 29th, we'll know the Players' Choice for released projects. To reminisce 2018 in modding and indies, DBolical has prepared Year in Review articles on ModDB and IndieDB. Also, voters are eligible to win some games! So get voting, help your favourite C&C mod/standalone game get to the top, and you might just go home with an extra game!
  18. Outcast: Second Contact is free on the Humble Store until November 24th at 10 AM PST: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/outcast-second-contact
  19. Depends on how much they'll change the graphical system and the code. Good luck running Age of Empires II: HD Edition on a 2003 computer.
  20. EALA/Victory Games did have various VHS tapes from the Westwood-era FMV shooting sessions. We know those were thrown away, but we don't know if they were digitally archived first.
  21. You're supposed to use the actual KW XMLs (which you can get here), then replace all xi:include dependencies with data that the files mentioned in those dependencies hold.
  22. Of course, because you played it over two decades ago. You can only have one first impression. Storytelling and worldbuilding have come a long way since then, but when you touch anything related to that other than audio/video fidelity in an existing game, you change not only the canon, but the general feeling of the game. You have to understand one more thing, though - pretend-army stuff was pretty popular in media in the mid-1990s, likely because the Gulf War was still fresh in people's minds and the wars in Croatia and Bosnia were still going on (guess why Sarajevo was Nod's main hub?). You can't change this stuff just because it isn't topical anymore. Nothing really new... The remaster doesn't have to emphasise this because everyone will already know that it's a remaster of a 1995 game, and nobody except the thickest of people who don't understand that remaster =/= remake will understand that that means limitations have to be placed on how much can be changed before it stops being the same game and even the same canon.
  23. Sorry, but why would they do that? The "modern audience" doesn't know what an RTS is even, so why would anything of the sort be changed for an audience that won't care about it anyway? This is the one chance they have to satisfy millions of fans the series gathered over two freakin' decades who appreciate it for what it is after deciding to use "modernization" as an excuse to take a dump on the series. The stupid smartphone generation has Rivals already. Leave TibDawn and RA1 where they are.
