Metallica's newer stuff have disappointed me to the point that I'm not going to run out and buy an album before hearing beforehand.

i agree with blackout ._. i didn't much care for their new stuff... what we need are preview clips, maybe 20 - 40 seconds long from like, the chorus or something which could be played on their website o.o then if you like what you hear, you can go out an get the song o.o win win scenario without the chance of being arrested :3

St Anger was good, yeah it sounded raw, but if you search YouTube you can watch some videos of the Metallica performing some St Anger songs that sound way better than the album versions. Example here's Sweet Amber with a solo!!

 

 

Another video, the songs the got the chop or never made it to St Anger. Wish they had cleaned up the Shadows of the Cross track, sounds good.

okie you convinced me x3 metallica are kickass... but they're too dark and depressing for me o.o i need songs that'll make me happy or psych me up, not make me get gloomy xD and by psych up i mean stuff like ultravox (laugh all you want. they may be an 80's synth band but when i listen to their songs i really feel like working and doing stuff... probably due to the fact i used to listen to it non stop when i used to work on RPG Maker games xD)

i listened to the first couple of minutes of that song... dunno if it changed halfway through but from what i heard i liked o.O used the same chords and similar tune to blue oyster cult's don't fear the reaper :3

There is some concern on the official Metallica forums about the sound quality of the released studio tracks, if you listen to the audio on the one I posted above the sound has a slight distortion to it, doesn't sound clean. People are wondering if the album sounds like this. Won't find out until next Friday I guess.

So the new album is out, been listening to it on and off. Really enjoying it.

 

The only thing I have to question is the production quality of the album overall. There is a noticeable distortion at times. Either its a deliberate way of adding some "raw" sound to the songs or something ****ed up during the final mixing.
