C&C Generals 2 Rumours Begin to Surface

Recommended Posts

Um, what is the storyline for NBA Live 2008 again? I cannot seem to recall how it tells of a hungry rookie looking to prove himself, a seasoned veteran ready to crack under the pressure and the coach's last stab at glory. This is an absolute outrage, sports games suck because they have no story.

That's a bad comparison you have made there Leang, and you know it.

Do I? Counterstrike then. I cannot recall a storyline for that either. Or Team Fortress for that matter.

The point is C&C games are about a story first and foremost, as previously mentioned Generals has no story so why they hell should there be a sequel? Someone please give me a damn good reason. If there is going to be a Generals 2 it will feel just as random and non-eventful as Generals did, only with flasher graphics. But I guess if it has super balanced multiplayer that makes it all right

I understand why Generals was made, simply because the then Westwood Pacific (later EA Pacific) guys wanted to do something different after Red Alert 2, create a cutting edge modern day RTS, and they did just that. The problem is they screwed up one of C&C's traditional selling points and that is a storyline.

By now I hope everyone understands that there is no truth to these Generals 2 rumours, just because they registered a domain name doesn't mean a new game. Its called covering yourself for the future, planning ahead just in case. Westwood did the same thing for years with all sorts of crazy domain names.

I cannot recall a compelling singleplayer campaign for either of those, can you? I think there was a console version of Counterstrike that had some small ****** mission set actually, "Condition Zero" or something. But it's not memorable in the least. Do you remember a compelling singleplayer saga for any of the Sportsfranchise Gameyear series either?

C&C was supposed to mean compelling series of missions with you as the commander, not a bunch of random missions; ironically, for me, most of Zero Hour's appeal was the Generals Challenge thing because the normal levels just weren't doing it for me.

And they are trying to hire Chris Cleave, Tom Clancy and Richard Marcinko to work in Kane, time travel, Tiberium, the Soviets, Nod, Tanya, Darth Vader and the new Red Alert into the war on terror universe of the first Generals.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Generals was a good game, but it's not C&C. So they can make another one as long as they don't label it C&C again. Since they stripped Tiberium of its heritage, that shouldn't be too hard for them.

Calling it C&C Tiberium is just stupid and redundant. Who other ****ing franchise has Tiberium in it? It's a Command and Conquer game just like Renegade is.

This is a fun rumour mill...

I'm a single-player fanatic, and I rarely play MP... but I don't really see the problem with a MP orientated RTS. As had been mentioned, FPS have been doing it for ages and successfully.

I will be sorely dissapointed in MP ONLY RTS, but it's not a concept that is totally foreign. I like Saracen's comments about the dev cycle - they make sense.

But I think like Sonic said - where would Gen2 go?

Gen2 needs a gimic to stand out from the crowd - like our other franchises have.

Tiberium is not C&C Tiberium because it's not a typical Command & Conquer game, and this lets them not only acknowledge that but also lets them go in a new direction with the IP while giving some distance and protection to the original series. If Tiberium ends up being a failed experiment, it won't marr the image of C&C. People who know what C&C is won't pick it up and go wtf, where are the tanks I'm clicking around and where is the tiberium I'm harvesting. C&C really means RTS to a lot of people, and for good reason...

Maybe they need to go back to having a top down view and keep just the sidebar as well. Tiberium Wars was hard to play.

My thoughts, spot on.
