Red Alert Retrospective Interview & Trailer

IGN have posted an interview with Louis Castle, the co-founder of the C&C franchise. This interview takes a retrospective look at the Red Alert franchise. You can also watch a brand new 3 minute retrospective trailer and relive some cool scenes from Red Alert and Red Alert 2. Here is part of the interview.

 

IGN: Red Alert is definitely one of the most beloved RTS series ever. What is it that you like most about it as a gamer?

 

Louis Castle: I love the fanciful way Red Alert approaches history. From the very first Red Alert I have been enamored with the idea that the weird science of the 40's and 50's might have been fact rather than wishful thinking. The simple fun way the universe is expressed allows me to escape to a work of drive-in movie theater and double creature features.

 

IGN: At various times you've hinted at the link between the RA and Tiberium universes. What exactly is the connection between the two? Can you tell us a bit about your original plans for Renegade 2 and what ultimately happened there? Do you ever see bringing the two worlds together again?

 

Louis Castle: Time will tell. Renegade 2 was shaping up to be a great multiplayer game but when we saw Battlefield it was clear we were not the only ones who saw promise in the style of game we wanted to build. We simply could not do everything we wanted and the team at DICE had the core concept nailed.

The video was alright.

 

The interview was the most interesting. I just don't get:

Renegade 2 was shaping up to be a great multiplayer game but when we saw Battlefield it was clear we were not the only ones who saw promise in the style of game we wanted to build. We simply could not do everything we wanted and the team at DICE had the core concept nailed.

 

Battlefield's system of capture the points suck compared to what Renegade had. Meh.

As for telling the story wise: I was a bit dissapointed that they did not show Alcatraz and the Dominator for the YR retro but instead Yuri screamin like a girl in front of Rex. lol
