I bought a new funky 500gb hard drive last month, on the 18th. (My birthday, which is why I remember.)

 

And now TODAY, it has about 1000 bad sectors reallocated, blah blah blah. Long story short its dying. That is LESS than a month. I'm usually fairly lucky with comp hardware, but not on this occasion.

 

So back to the shop with ye. I just hope this won't be too stressful. The only bane of internet buying I suppose, returns. I'd feel much better if I could visit in person, but w/e.

Seagate's have had a thing about going down on me in the past. I've suffered 2 fully severe hard disk failures over the last 10 years because those Seagates decided to crap out on me, on my previous 2 PC's.

 

As Sonic says Western Digital are the best choice. I've got a 400Gb one in my gaming rig right now, and it's been nothing but perfect. You get more bang for your buck with those things anyway.

I have 3 Western Digitals and I've never had a problem at all. I've seen more Seagates **** on themselves faster than any other drive.

Now to send my hard drive off on its merry trip. Totally blank of course.

My 500G external just **** itself the day after i put my new computer together. luckily i was able to copy all 440Gover onto my new 1TB Hard drive before it completely died on me

This is the first time I've RMAed anything. I guess I'm just lucky. I thought a month was excessive, but w/e at least I got a new one in the end.

I've got a bunch of hard drives in various states of aliveness around the house. About a dozen all up. WD's have been pretty good to me, none of them dying, just getting too small or old for my system.

 

A couple of seagates have failed on me but I've been able to recover stuff from them. Although one of my 250GB seagate has been running for a few years now with no worries.

 

 

As long as it's under warrenty it doesn't really matter, just a pain in the backside when you have to deal with it.

My hdd story I guess:

I kept getting errors from my external and googled the problem. Googled gave me a lot of results of the exact problem, I started fearing I bought a bad line of externals. I shot them an email and they told me to get a new cord. Got one, a lot longer than the dinky 2-ft one they gave me, and it worked perfect and has ever since.

 

Why would you give bad cords out when it could ruin the reputation of the line? Cords are like 5 bucks, increase the price if you had to by that... *itches head*
