More Red Alert 3 Co-Op Campaign Details

Recommended Posts

GiantBomb.com is the latest gaming site to cover Red Alert 3's co-op campaign. This preview is probably one of the better ones simply because it features more in game video footage with explanations from Red Alert 3's producers Amer Ajami and Greg Kasavin. Here's a sample, but the video is the only thing worth checking out.

Electronic Arts Los Angeles dropped by our offices earlier this week with a couple of travel-friendly PCs containing the practically-finished-might-as-well-be-final version of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3. This was our first time getting an up-close look at the campaign and how it will play out in a co-operative fashion.

It's really cool, actually. The entire campaign can be played by two players simultaneously over the Internet. If you're playing alone, the game doesn't scale down to a smaller solo-style campaign. Instead, it plugs the hole with an AI-based commander. This means that the missions have been built from the ground up with co-operation in mind, so some missions will have the two forces starting out with bases in different areas on the map, letting you plan out attacks thatt hit your enemies from both sides, or quickly working your way up the tech tree by building structures inside each others' build radius, and so on. I got a chance to sit down with two of the game's producers, Amer Ajami and Greg Kasavin, to get a run-through of how it's all going to work by playing through the third mission of the Allied campaign.

Campaign is going pretty good, can wait to play.

i could say the entire game is going Pretty Good! B)

but there is a small "dark" thought on the co-op! :blush:

let me explain:

many many times in the video you will notice that your opponet has control of some units and you other, especially

in the beggining the tacticts used with dolphins and ( damn i cant remember the names of the allied fast boats right now)...never mind

they were talking to each other and give advice for tactics and Micro managemnt! that was cool cause they get through without any looses.

what warries me is that there is a Good Micro management and tacticts going on over there and i am Really wondering how could the A.I commanders match those

Micro tacticts of a Human Player!? i like finish the campaign alone, at least in the beggining, but i am starting to think the A.I commands like "attack that" / "defent this"

will not make my life easy on the battlefield and i will have to worry for the A.I too not only for my self!

sure Human is smarter than AI (for now) but AI can do great job in tank rush gamestyles, but when it comes to the single player style, i am having second thought on the AI performance in micro and tactics-strategic missions!

do you worry? or you will never play single player offline? :unsure:

well we will know in 15days i quess....

Think of it like this then, neither AI will micro much at all. So you automatically are OP to them. :)

OP=?

wouldnt be freacking cool, you have a co-op to play with and try to complete the mission and on the other hand the enemy been controled my CO-op player TOO drying to lead you to failure!???

i have an idea that EALA can make lots of money and Rise Online again.

imagine the World map, but not fighting just to conquer countries, But make at 3-6 missions for each Country on the World Map!

then the players (2 for each side) will have to choose the side they wish.if you want you can fight with A.I too.

then every team will try to achive the complete different objectives from the other team,

example:

if the Allies has to attack the Power Reactors on a missions and Capture a Building

the Soviets will have to defent those Reactors and capture an enemy building or something, not always Kill them all style.

but some missions will be free kill them all style, sure.

that would be amazing and will give HUGE playability over time!

player will fight each time for a country and choose from 3-6 missions to play and over the end of the day the statistics will give Control and (color) to the country that

had the most wins! if a side ever Conquers the Entire World then this is a World Domination Vistory and the MAP restarts.

winners taking place will achive EXP and those can be converted to Ladder victories and win przes or something like that!

ok i may need to copyright this Idea :)

I've always thought that a world domination tournament would simply work if there were only a few maps available on that day, and that everyone in that 'mode' of gameplay would fight many times over the same piece of land throughout the day. Then the Mods would tally the allied/soviet victories on that SPECIFIC map at the end of the day and cede that territory to whichever faction won the day. Winners get to attack another territory, losers defend. But if you have 2-3 maps then the allies have a chance to capture a new territory, and the soviets also have a chance to capture a territory, and then perhaps a third territory could be available for either side to capture.

I would prefer pure soviet v allied battle in the actual skirmish, but I guess as long as you swear allegiance to a particular faction before you play in the tournament, then you could still have mirror matches - and just explain it as traitors or undercover units for the faction.

Another level of detail, which they never would do, is to have the allies speak the soviet unit responses in their accents and visa-versa to help immerse the players in the universe.
