BioBen 3 Posted December 6, 2008 (edited) Ok, finally my computer's old GeForce FX 5200 card died, so I'm running on the intergrated for now. The computer is used firstly for music production, secondly for gaming so I'm not spending money on a new system with PCI-E. So I need to find the best possible PCI graphics card, any pointers? Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 6, 2008 Do you have PCI-E Express 16? Check your mobo out and I'll link you to some good cards for a good price. Share this post Link to post
BioBen 3 Posted December 6, 2008 No thats the thing, just PCI, not even AGP. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 293 Posted December 6, 2008 Your limited when it comes to PCI only video cards. And some are still really expensive. Personally I wouldn't spend to much on one. The more you spend would be a waste because you could just put that money towards buying a new motherboard or complete system that supports PCI-E. A decent one would be the Radeon HD 2400 Pro http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecificati...x?ItemID=363995 for $151.48 But there are cheaper options. If you want to stick with the Geforce range go to http://www.pricespy.co.nz/pno_318.html, if you want to move to an ATI Radeon try here http://www.pricespy.co.nz/pno_1135.html. A cheap Palit GF FX5200 128MB PCI for $89 is here http://www.pbtechnz.com/index.php?item=VGAPAL5200PCI Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted December 6, 2008 Probably be better to just save and buy a decent mobo with PCI express, then you can get a "nice card" for "cheap", as opposed to a "bad card" for "bad". Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 7, 2008 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....42&name=PCI Take your pick. You can find some decent cards on that list. Unfortunately, they don't ship to New Zealand but find what you want and buy it elsewhere. Share this post Link to post
BioBen 3 Posted December 7, 2008 Thanks DD and Sonic PS. I just realized a transistor is missing off the card so I might try fix it, before i buy a new one. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 7, 2008 Save yourself some hassle and buy a new card. As far as I can tell, you can't 'fix' a broken card. The manufacturer would be able to but I seriously doubt an end user would have the skills, tools or even the knowledge to do it. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 293 Posted December 7, 2008 You could always ask Santa for a new computer Share this post Link to post
BioBen 3 Posted December 8, 2008 I could but I already asked him for a WOMAD ticket Share this post Link to post
Duke 0 Posted December 8, 2008 *Googles*. Oh, you're from Taranaki I used to live in Wanganui. [/offtopicbanter] Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted December 8, 2008 I might go to that too. Did anyone from out of New Zealand, or even out of Taranaki hear "New Plymouth is one of the best places in the world to live, according to judges in a United Nations-endorsed awards." For a city its size? http://www.stuff.co.nz/4757416a19716.html Bioben, how do you plan to fix it? Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted December 8, 2008 Where I live was ranked the Best city of its size in the world by the UN this year. Share this post Link to post
BioBen 3 Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) Bioben, how do you plan to fix it? The Current economic crisis? Um well actually i'm planning on giving large somes of money to Fronterra to fix the world economy Seriously though, my card: I'm gonna have a look for the transistor (probly happily rolling around the case ) and when i find it solder it back on, but it probly won't happen. Julbri 0 Posted December 9, 2008 The Current economic crisis? Um well actually I'm planning on giving large somes of money to Fronterra to fix the world economy sums? You should definitely go ahead and do that, As you know my family is part of that co-operative so the money would just filter on down to farmers and some of that would no doubt end up in my pocket. Would take a while for that to fix the economy, or HUGE sums of money Share this post Link to post
BioBen 3 Posted December 9, 2008 No it would make it worse as fronterra are doing fine as is. Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted December 10, 2008 Even Fonterra is struggling compared to usual, they generally have set months for dropping or raising the pay out but since demand dropped so much, they have had to drop the pay out months in advance because the margin they were withholding for future growth shrank so much. Anyway, you tryed to fix it yet? Share this post Link to post
Sonic 293 Posted December 10, 2008 Hey guys, lets not get way off topic here ok. Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted December 10, 2008 Hey guys, lets not get way off topic here ok. I asked him if he had tryed to fix it yet at the end of that last post Share this post Link to post
BioBen 3 Posted December 10, 2008 Anyway, i just realized the transistor i thought was missing, wasn't. It was just a pointless space on the circuit board Share this post Link to post
