Red Alert 3: Uprising Clarifications

Recommended Posts

For those of you who don't visit the Official C&C Forums that often. Shortly after the announcement of Red Alert 3: Uprising, community manager, APOC, posted some information to answer some of the questions that have come up.

A few clarifications so it's all in one thread:

- Uprising WILL HAVE TRADITIONAL SKIRMISH MODE, so you will be able to play against the AI with the new units that have been added to each of the 3 factions. We're also adding a huge number of new maps. While this expansion add-on has a huge central focus on single player, we were able to incorporate traditional skirmish. See below for further explanation.

And now for some more consolidation:

- The Commander's Challenge which features over 50 different scenarios is very similar to the General's Challenge Mode. It is not, and I repeat not simply an achievement based mode. This is an entirely separate component of Uprising comprised of over 50 different challenges which are almost like mini-missions with different objectives and challenges.

- While Red Alert 3 base game is still in its infancy, its important to us to continually give the game strong support with patches, tournaments, etc as it continues to evolve. Our objective with Uprising was not to quickly add a 4th faction to online play. We decided we would try something new and create a campaign expansion that delivered on exactly what many in the community asked for in our research - new UNITS AND STORY. Uprising provides a continuation of the story line for each of the 3 factions, plus we’ve added a 4th mini-campaign which will be centered around the newest commando, Yuriko. We think you guys will really enjoy the Yuriko campaign and agree that it plays out like nothing you've seen before in a Command & Conquer game. While co-op nor multiplayer are not included with Uprising, we absolutely haven't forgotten our multiplayer audience and will have more info in the coming months ahead.

- Uprising will include a large amount of new multiplayer maps for skirmish play, which we will also make available in near future patches for the Red Alert 3 base game as well. That is pretty cool.

- Uprising will be available for digital download at first release through the EA Store this March, but please rest assured we are looking in to other distribution models which does include retail.

- We have not determined the suggested retail price yet for Uprising, but part of the reason why we decided to become a digital download was so that we could pass some of the savings onto all of you out there. We realize that times are tough, so we are making sure that Uprising will be a great value and something that any Command & Conquer fan can afford. More on the exact price in the weeks to come.

-APOC

I don't visit the Official C&C Forums that much so I would have seen this sooner and mentioned it here. Anyway, this should clear up a lot of the confusion about what Red Alert 3: Uprising is and what is has to offer. The original thread can be found here.

I hope that if they do add new maps to RA3, that they make a few of them Official 1v1, 2v2 maps. :)

I guess the new units will be SP only then? Oh well, at least there wil be a few new maps.

APOC explained it, Uprising's main focus is on single player. More stuff for the MP players will come later.

I still don't understand the retailing bit. Does that mean all along EA's gameboxes and discs aren't produced in their companies?

What exactly do they mean by dungeon-crawling? Is that like those missions in Warcraft 3 where you just have a hero and gather some units along the way? That could be interesting, but I'm not sure if it would be as good as WCIII because the commandos in RA3 aren't quite as... heroic as the heroes in Warcraft. I mean, a couple of anti-infantry vehicles can take down Yuriko easily.

We'll have to see about that. I hope this time round please come out with an interesting campaign.

I hope they will also add in more music. And hopefully a soundtrack playlist like we had in TW, TS, RA 1 and 2.

But please, RETAIL the game.

maybe co-op will still be implemented in the new single player missions. But besides that since there will be new missions i wonder if their will be new co-commanders.

The DVD discs, manuals and whatever else goes in the actual boxes are manufactured in different parts of the world. I think its done by companies outside of EA or something like that. I'm not entirely sure though.

I don't expect any new music in Uprising, and it will most likely be the same dynamic music system as before. So no playlist selection.

Its already confirmed. There is no MP, co-op is MP feature.

I just read this thread after the gamespot Q&A... It's interesting that they have not included the SP/Co-Op campaign model in these new missions. An admission that the dynamic didn't work?

I was suprised that they didn't make the campaigns co-op, even if it was just AI-only. The whole concept is in it's infancy and the extra attention could only help improve the experience. But perhaps that refinement will come in later 'expansions'.

Yeah co-op with only the AI would have been fine imo. :)

Comes under 'standard expectations' I think...

The lack of Co Op doesn't bother me to be honest, AI or Online. I always found myself ignoring the AI Co-Commander during the SP campaigns.

I don't think it worked that well, but for a first attempt it was great. That sort of control over AI in skirmish would be excellent. But I just think they should have continued the concept and worked on improving it, if only in little things.

There could have been more mission maps designed for - break the seige and rescue your co-commander - or - hold out to your co-commander makes it through with reinforcements - or - a commando only mission simultaneous to your co-commander's traditional base building beach-head so that tanya really does kill the power to allow the establishment of the base (emphasis on real-time) - or - really worked on AI personality ie. co-commander 1 is a turtler, co-commander 2 is a rusher - or - at least given you the option of which position/target/objective you would start the mission with (most of the sp missions really seemed like generic 2v2 maps with some side/bonus objectives tossed in - or - worked on pathing issues and better audio responses to let you know how your co-commander is doing (distress, disaster, under attack but okay, forces on the way etc).

It would be nice if you could 'negotiate' the economy sharing model. Where you start at 1:1 split but like in old games you can nominate a 1:2 or 1:3 split to help with tech tree climbing, spamming etc. It could work on a simple "RA2 alliance" mode where both have to agree...

There are LOTS of little things they could do to improve CO-OP.

I like your ideas Gben, along with the good old seige missions. They are always fun, last for X minutes till reinforcements arrive. ^_^

I hope the expansion will be pleasing, if they would like to show cinematics again, I hope to see some bloopers again. Like the original RA3 Premier Edition, as far as I'm concerned, the bloopers I saw are the worst of all EA ever created, I can't believe they spent too much time working on the bloopers which most of them coming from the "Hell March remix" music video, which I found that very disappointing. I prefer in-game cinematic ones, NOT from other sources such as the remix video or the marketing videos (Like "Ackerman for President" videos).

Imagine if a child of mine would play RA3 and watch the bloopers, and when he asks me "Daddy, these bloopers are not related from the original game. Where are those coming from?", I'll be unhappy to answer to him that only very few scenes are from the game itself, the rest are all other stuff NOT from the game.
