Luk3us 63 Posted January 31, 2009 So I've been using my trusty Dell 17" LCD for the last, hmm, must be 3 maybe 4 years! Anyway over the last year I've been getting plently of HD goodness thanks to the internet, a few days ago I got a funky USB freeviewer, which doesn't mean much to most of you, but basically it means I can get digital TV, some of it in HD. So its time to get a monitor to do me justice. At the moment I'm only looking at 22" LCD monitors, nothing bigger nothing smaller. http://www.tastech.co.nz/product_info.php?products_id=280816 Is one I've got my eye on atm. I know there are better ones out there, but it seems fairly good. I'll keep looking around though, any thoughts? I like that one because it gets 1920x1080 res, as opposed to other 22" which are smaler. The other problem, is once I get this, and a funky new res, is a I'll have to get a new vid card! But that is another story. Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted January 31, 2009 Heres a good site that might help http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=6 As far as advice goes, most samsung monitors are quite good, but a number of other brands are just as good and a bit cheaper. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted February 1, 2009 Check out the LG W2252TQ 22" http://www.playtech.co.nz/product.php?acti...ail&id=5115, its probably one of the best. But doesn't do 1920 x 1050. But do you really need the high a resolution. 1680 x 1050 is already damn big. Plus this one look nicer on your desk or table. Avoid the cheapish Samsung models these days. Find out as much as possible about the actual panel. For instance many of Samsung models use the budget Che-Mei panels now, they aren't so good for gaming. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted February 2, 2009 I thought HD was 1280xwhatever anyways? No need to go bigger resolution than that, no...? Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted February 2, 2009 I think its anything over 720px on the vertical is considered "in HD". Its having a wide screen aspect ratio of 16:9 or 16:10 that has become the standard thing now. After many years of the 4:3 aspect ratio at resolutions like 1024 x 768 (19" CRT) then a few years at 1280 x 1024 (19" LCD). Moving to 1680 x 1050 (16:10) on a 22" wide screen LCD is great. Julbri 0 Posted February 3, 2009 Im saving up to get a big screen HD monitor that i can use as a TV when i move out and as my main screen for my rig Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted February 10, 2009 I looked at a few other monitors around the place, and read a bunch of reviews and such. And was planning on getting a BQ or whatever monitor, but they were out. So I got the inital Viewsonic one. Everything looks stupidly big. But it does down scale very nicely which was my main concern. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted February 11, 2009 Am I the only one here not going to widescreen? o_O Share this post Link to post
BioBen 3 Posted February 11, 2009 Well I have a widescreen lappy screen with a 15" hooked up beside it, cool, but wallpapers are a bitch. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted February 11, 2009 Am I the only one here not going to widescreen? o_O Yeah I was rather resistant to the whole widescreen thing, but eh, its everywhere now. Besides 16:9 does look nice for a lot of things. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted February 11, 2009 Its actually a 16:10 aspect ratio, not 16:9. Common resolutions of 16:10 screens. 1280×800 13-15" 1440×900 15-19" 1680×1050 20-22" 1920×1200 23-28" 2560×1600 30" Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted February 11, 2009 I think 22" is stupid as it is. Anything bigger and your going to have to have some fairly beefy setup to get it working in all its glory. I draw the line at twin video cards myself. Share this post Link to post
