EA Releases Game Authorization Management Tools

Slashdot reports that EA have released a SecuROM De-Authorization Management Tools. These tools have made been made available to help users manage EA games that have SecuROM activation limitations, like Red Alert 3. There are two options if you want to take advantage of this.

 

Option 1: De-Authorization using the EA De-Authorization Management Tool

 

De-authorization with the EA De-Authorization Management Tool is a simple two-step process:

(1) Download the EA De-Authorization Management Tool. This tool: (a) scans your computer to determine which EA PC games released after May 2008 with machine authorization limits your computer has been authorized to play; and (

tells you how many computer authorizations you have available for each detected game.

 

(2) Download the game-specific de-authorization tool(s) to de-authorize your computer for whichever game(s) you choose. Once de-authorized, a machine "slot" will be freed up and can be re-used on another machine. De-authorization does not uninstall the game, however, so if you decide you want to re-authorize your computer later, all you have to do is re-launch the game.

Option 2: De-Authorization With Game-Specific Tools Only

 

Use this option if you know the game you would like to de-authorize from this computer and would like to skip the first step of Option 1.

Red Alert 3 is included in the list of games. But it already has its own SecuROM De-Authorization Management Tools built in since the 1.05 patch was released.

Personally I don't care about the whole SecuRom/DRM stuff, doesn't cause any problems for me.

It seems EA has decided to revert back to the traditional serial key methods for their new Sims 3 with no DRM whatsoever. I wonder, will that means future C&C games will follow suit?

Probably because SecuRom/DRM doesn't work anyway.

I strongly believe its good news to all anti-DRM folks out there. Hope to see future EA products following Sims 3.

It's a shame that EA has to release them after admitting defeat from a lawsuit on Spore DRM.
