Post-Mortem: Tiberium Wars Article

TSHyper made all those vector logos, he sent me a whole bunch of them, still have them all somewhere. They were based on Westwoods old concepts.

The logo on the far right was Westwood's Scrin logo.

Honestly, I like the look of the Westwood scin logo more then EA's.... EA's looks more like a bug army then an alien army >.>

I enjoyed the well written article, and I can't fault many of the criticisms.

But to be fair I didn't like TibSun and I really enjoyed TibWars. I think if EA had addresses these issues, for me, C&C3 would have gone from a review score of 75-80% to 90-95%. C&C3 is a very solid and enjoyable game.

As I have said many times in the forums here, this is now EA's game, I support their right to take it in a different direction... and I even prefer many of their choices (ie mammoth)...

BUT IT REQUIRES SUFFICIENT EXPLANATION TO ALTER OUR UNDERSTANDING OF CANON. Intel entries were the very least they could have done, but full CGI/FMV scenes were probably what was necessary to sate the fans need for cohesion.

(he he - I think my biggest issue with the game, as raised by the article was the underuse of Grace Park!)

It looks more like Spideman logo to me.

While intel entries sound reasonable in some way, I personally feel that the concept of these entries seem very cheapskate. Maybe they could spend a little more effort on making small video clips or a voice over from the characters.

Second that about the Grace Park comment. She was brilliant in BSG. In fact most of the C&C3 characters were stale and boring. The only character that's over the top was that lando dude, way too over the top. He should be hired in Red Alert 3 instead.

Oh yeah, that Scrin logo is more awesome than EA's. :D Beautiful, although it reminds me of Transformers or any mech factions a little bit, but I find this one more simple and better. And I agree, the Marked of Kane is kind of confusing, and the center is yeap, like a Pokeball. But so far, I find EA's Black Hand logo is far better than Renegade's.

I have to disagree, I prefer the EALA scrin logo it's nice and simple, the westwood one looks a bit boring and generic

I am neutral to EA's Scrin logo. Happy in a way as the logo fits each and every of the Scrin units and structures. Unhappy in a way as I look back to the Scrin hints back in C&C, Ren, and TS, the whole newly designed EA Scrin thing seems so out of place.

Objection! Westwood Pacific already severed the ties with RA2. And to be honest, I prefer it stayed this way. Isgreen's explanation would have been tacky. And yes, RA3 has some minor issues (Length, "story", pathfinding, talkative FMVs), but it's almost close to perfection.

That was after EA started poking their nose into the development, and RA2's story could have been reasonably explained.

WW had their own execs, most game-related decisions weren't made by EA. Like TS has't been rushed because of them.

It could have, but it was still quite different from RA1.

For that matter, I'm missing all that background information Tiberian Dawn gave us in form of infomercials and narrated sequences- It was fascinating to know what happened to the economy and the planet, and since these are factors directly related to Tiberium, they should not be overlooked to hook the player to this world as strongly as possible.

Brilliant point.

Btw, I distilled my thoughts on TW's failures into this article.

Mostly agree with your article, but you are wrong about tiberian flora and fauna. It's maybe a cliche, but it's one of most important aspects of TS and Tiberian universe, at lest until TW came.

I'm not "wrong" about anything :P It's just my opinion. My issue with TS was the general 80s sci-fi vibe which was neither attractive nor unique to me, and I still wait for a sequel that does TD justice. I always found the economy and politics behind Tiberium, GDI and Nod to be the most intriguing about the series, and no instalment after TD really lived up to that.

OK, you are not "wrong" about anything, it's just your opinion, I'm not expressed myself on the right way. About that TS "vibe", that's "vibe" were one of the thing which makes TS unique and attractive to most C&C fans (at least old school fans, unfortunately many of them are not active anymore in C&C community today). If only TW had that "vibe", I doubt that have been any discussion today about TW flaws at this scale. It's just my opinion. ^_^

I enjoyed your article Hags. Still waiting for your RA3 review!

I guess I'm another one who didn't buy the Tiberian Sun universe, I'm much more comfortable with the directions EALA took, I just wish they had better explanations, and more emmersive environments (as hagren points out!)

TibSun was all about "OMG the world's gonna end", but TibWars seemed "OMG we almost finished this tiberium problem when here comes Nod again, why doesn't someone just take care of the Kane guy!"

"What's my motivation!" - I always think of the sprite ad with the basketballers!!!

Thanks, the EA forum users just flamed me for disliking TS' Tb lifeforms and didn't even continue after the first sentence...

As for the Uprising review, I have to ask Duke about that.

Can I see those EA fanboys' threads/threats?

You mean the Uprising review? That's the problem- there is more than one site who'd like to publish it, and my hands are tied until the decision is made.

I haven't really commented on Ryan's article at PCNC or Hagren's article at CNC Files, mostly because I couldn't be bothered and everything that needed to be said as already been covered. TW was boring for me and no article will change that.

But what I wish people would understand is the fact that TW was really a reboot for the C&C franchise after being in the wilderness for 4 years without a game, even longer if you count the years between TS and TW. So EALA had make it so people could pick up and play the game without the need to know what happened in TS and Firestorm, but yeah there are areas of the game that are executed poorly. If C&C 3 was made back 2002/2003 rather than Generals it would have been a completely different game.

What else do you expect from those forums?

The whole C&C3 issues and concerns are kinda getting repetitive and boring personally. While some comments are funny over at the other C&C sites, dicussion threads and everything, here's a list of compilation I come up with.

We have 3 sides.

WWfanboys/TDTS lovers:

- "Wait, C&C3 is a sequel to TS?"

- Tiberium, flora and fauna, mutants, mutations, environment concerns.

- "Where is walls?"

- Crappy storyline.

- GDI becomes low tech and where is mechs? Nod having militias and suicide men, wtf? Scrin is BS.

- Intel Database is cheapskate and doesn't fill in the gaps between TS and C&C3.

- Lousy designs in sturctures and units.

- Overuse of Hollywood actors.

- Crappy FMVs.

- Lousy ending.

EAfanboys/Pro CC3/TS is ridiculous folks:

- "Thanks for bringing back C&C after the years of waiting."

- Awesome gameplay.

- Multiplayer and online is awesome!

- Balance factions!

- 3 factions!

- Thank EA for dumping the useless mutant junkies and the cliche flora and fauna.

- Great sidebar interface.

- Improved hotkeys.

- HD FMVs!

- Kane is back and portrayed by Joe Kucan!

Neutral:

- All (Or most) of the above?

That should sum it all up?
