Sonic 296 Posted May 1, 2009 So does anyone here use any form of firewall software on their computer(s). Maybe your really hardcore and you have a hardware based firewall. And do you really need any form of firewal to begin with. I just use the Windows Vista Firewall myself plus router has a built-in one. When I had XP I used Comodo Firewall. TheBlackOut 7 Posted May 1, 2009 I just use Avast!'s webshield thing. No Windows firewall, router one is on though. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted May 2, 2009 I've been using Zone Alarms for ages, and still am. I like being able to prevent programs from accessing the net. Share this post Link to post
Malevolence 6 Posted May 2, 2009 Maybe you should shift this thread to the Hardware & Tech Support area. Didn't intend to use Firewalls for the moment. Use to have Zone Alarms though. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted May 2, 2009 Entirely hardware controlled. Routers are awesome. Share this post Link to post
Wee_Ooh 0 Posted May 3, 2009 Not using any firewalls. >_> Except maybe Windows firewall...I'm not even sure. I don't care because I don't have anything worth taking on this computer. Share this post Link to post
Mighty BOB! 5 Posted May 3, 2009 Sygate Personal Firewall. Plus I leave the Windows Firewall turned on and have the firewall in my router. Share this post Link to post
mormreed 0 Posted May 3, 2009 Hardware on the router, Comodo, Avast Webshield and yeah... that's it... my parents have stuff they don't want looked at so I owe it to them to not compromise the network at least Share this post Link to post
Mighty BOB! 5 Posted May 3, 2009 Oh I forgot to mention that I hate ZoneAlarm with a passion. I tried it out a year or two ago and it was constantly nagging me with popups even worse than those one gets from Vista. That wasn't the most annoying part though. The most annoying part was that it wouldn't remember the stuff I told it to trust. It would not only ask about the same program multiple times in a row with different-colored popups, but after I told it to trust said program, it would flag the same program the next day or even in the next few hours. At least Threatfire and Sygate remember when you mark a program as safe and Sygate only flags it if the executable has changed since the last time you used it. I get plenty of popups whenever I install a new program or run it for the first time or connect to the Internet for the first time, but after that it remembers that those = friend programs. ZoneAlarm is unnecessary anyways. Safe browsing habits and routine checkups are good enough. Share this post Link to post

You need the Norton Removal Tool - http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgen...005033108162039 Download, run the tool, restart computer and Norton is history. Share this post Link to post
Malevolence 6 Posted May 6, 2009 Or simply reformat the system for good. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted May 7, 2009 STOP SUGGESTING THAT! It's entirely unnecessary. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted May 7, 2009 I agree, wiping the HDD is a last resort thing. Not something you do to rid yourself of a **** software like Norton. I can't remember the last time I actually had reformat my HDD. Share this post Link to post
Julbri 0 Posted May 7, 2009 (edited) i can!!! but it would be a waste to do that to get rid of norton Edited May 7, 2009 by Julbri Share this post Link to post
mormreed 0 Posted May 9, 2009 Hmmm... last time I had to do that was when *shudders* linux stopped installing while it was modifying the boot partition, a normal reformat didn't work... so I had to boot into the recovery console, DOS my way around and look for any program that might help me out, finally found it buried somewhere, oh and btw the drive DOS booted from was a virtual A: drive I didn't know was there, and AFAIK you can't "dir" drives, let's just say it was a fun time Share this post Link to post
