You are not going to believe this article blog about EA

Recommended Posts

There's a website called Screwattack that has a blog article about EA. You probably might agree with this, but it's just public opinion. The article I read is definitely an attack against EA regarding C&C4 and the future of their games.

I think that one day EA (including EALA studio and all other EA studios) needs to learn what Bioware can do. The only thing we can accept by all means (in some recent games) is to activate the game through the Internet just to run the game without 24/7 full internet and DRM and that's it.

Looks like we have some people criticizing the EA's CEO for incompetency:

Be careful what you wish for, EA may very well drop all verification methods in the future... And instead only release games on console... *shudder* PC piracy is seriously killing PC gaming, and until someone comes up with a method that appeases the masses and makes companies like EA feel secure in releasing their games, we get stuck with these half ass methods...

Why can't game companies just stick to the CD key and CD check method? I think that is enough.

Or maybe in the future they can just have a CD key which the installation program checks with a server before installing, if it cannot connect to a server the game will try later to verify the key it got. So people with no internet can play.

Though game companies are fighting a loosing battle. DRM's are usually cracked shortly after the game is released, maybe even a day after the game is released and sometimes even before the games release.

I do not like piracy, it doesn't give the developer what they deserve. But when a game refuses to run only because you have two disk drives...then they are doing DRM the wrong way.

Problem is that even a 8 year old kid knows how to download a game from torrent sites and use various cd key generators and crack images.

I agree that a secure method like staying online is only fair.

Not everyone has Internet though. Why should that gamer be ****ed out of playing because the parent company of the product is too worried about piracy? Why should I need to be connected to the Internet, just to play offline? What happens when I lose my Internet for a week or I have a laptop and I'm on the road with no connection? EA, Valve and the rest, have to think of these scenarios when designing their Draconian DRM policies and they toss them aside like they're not worth it when that's a lie.

Frankly, I'm quite sick of the DRM. It just gives everyone a reason to go right for the warez bin instead of legitimately buying the product. If I have to suffer because I paid, what is the point in making a purchase? I don't stand to gain a real experience through it, just a sham of one that's not worth the price tag.

There's that, of course, and making a product people will actually want to ****ing buy.

Don't really care about that blog, just another attack EA half assed rant. But I'm convinced that PC gaming is dying and will be dead in the water in the next few years.

Yep PC gaming is dying... just look at the shelf space in any retail gaming store!

My guess is that Blizzard (with their upcomming titles) will takeover what's left of the PC gaming industry and most of the other companies will only release future titles for consoles.

I've been disappointed with 9 out of 10 games I've played that is released after 2005. They think it's all about the graphics, but it's not.

People don't buy games like Roller Coaster Tycoon, Diablo II, Age of Empires or Counter-Strike because of graphics, but because of the damn good gameplay, replay value and insane amount of work put into it.

The fact that these titles are still within the top 10 sellers (yes I did ask the salesman last time because of the "empty" shelfs) just proves that hard work pays off.

Most new titles have fancy new technology and exiting features, but isn't fun in the length and won't pay off. They'll learn someday I hope. I have no problem with 2D games at all :)

We haven't forgotten the future Half-Life games and future Left 4 Dead games for if PC gaming is to be gone for good. Half-Life 2 was merely more popular on the PC version than on the console version. But until then, it'll be only the new and old PC games going into digital distribution only.

If PC gaming is dying, so will the future game mods. Video game consoles don't do add-on mods.

Dear world:

PC gaming is what drives the power of your computer hardware. It isn't going anywhere.

Also there is no market for used PC titles, so of course more retail space is going to be devoted to consoles, because the retailers can leech off multiple resales of used merchandise.

-edit-

Well EA is shutting down a bunch of servers again. They're all sports games (way to go yearly release cycle) but it doesn't make one feel any better about their post-release support.

Console versions of Half-Life 2 came way later than the PC version. So not the best comparison.

Most PC games released today are nothing but **** ports of the console versions anyway. Modern Warfare 2 is a prime example of that. FEAR 2: Project Origin is another game that suffered from a cheap and nasty console conversion. Everything that was cool and awesome in the PC version of FEAR was dumbed down or left out completely. You can tell when developers are lazy in this area just by the controls or options for setting screen resolutions. In the case of FEAR 2, you couldn't even get 16:10 resolutions, it was all locked to 16:9 aspects on the PC.

So when ever Valve get around to doing Half-Life 3 one day you bet on the PC version being a port of the Xbox 360 version.

And what is the reason for all this is happening. It all comes down to sales, or lack there of. PC games don't sell any more. Blame piracy I guess. Console games do sell, so its becoming more and more common to see developers making their games for Xbox 360 and PS3 first and porting them for PC. If I was a game developer I'd be doing the same thing, that's where the money is.

Yeah I read that on Kotaku the other day. You can hardly blame them though. EA want to save money and as we have seen over the past few months they are cost cutting on everything. Keeping servers going for games that no one plays any more is hardly good business sense.

Here's the list, as you said they are all sports games...

  • UEFA Champions League 07 PC and x360
  • Facebreaker x360 and PS3
  • Fantasy Football 09 x360 and PS3
  • FIFA 07 PSP, PS2, PC
  • Fight Night Round 3 PS2
  • Madden 08 Wii
  • Madden 08 PC
  • Madden 09 Xbox1

From what I read in the recent tabloids, it just got worse. Some former EA exec is blaming and criticizing the current EA's CEO for incompetency. The update is in the first post.
