Prisoner416 2 Posted February 12, 2011 There should be an install option to keep the original C&C music in place, as opposed to the vocal added versions that (mostly) sound like crap in comparison. I don't mind extra bonus tracks, but when songs like "Act on Instinct" are mangled, there's a problem. Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 100 Posted February 12, 2011 C&C95 v1.06c revision 2 will have that, yes. But that's not related to TFD patch 1.03, that's purely a matter of C&C95 v1.06c. My forum is on this same board, so please post your complaints in the correct forum. And preferably AFTER reading the changes list of the version that's currently in development. Also, these tracks were the originals made for the game. If you'd listen to the soundtrack CD, it also has these sound effects. It's just that somewhere during the development they decided to replace them with versions without voices because they thought the voices could possibly confuse the players, especially since there are voice clips spoken by the same woman who did EVA. And by the way, even in v1.06c r1 you can disable them, by extracting rules.ini from updatec.mix. Share this post Link to post
Prisoner416 2 Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) Sorry, thought I was posting in the other board. I read through the change log before and must have missed the section. One quick question, does this include all of the files from the Red Alert Lost Files pack, or just the Ant Lion ones? Edited February 12, 2011 by Prisoner416 Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 100 Posted February 12, 2011 The TFD 1.03 patch you mean? The 2 original ant videos are simply in the game, not in any patches... Share this post Link to post

No, I mean I know it adds the introductions and such with the General from Red Alert 2, but I wasn't sure which missions, if any got the other extra videos, like the one with Tanya leaping out of a window. Nyerguds 100 Posted February 12, 2011 Oh, the Carville briefing... not sure if that's in the patch, though it's possible. I got it up as download on my site, anyway. http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/cncstu....html#ra_antbrf (Unfortunately, you can't easily add new videos to RA1. The game can only use the videos that are in its internal list. The only reason I was able to add the ants briefing video was because the game has one unused entry (SHIPYARD) in its videos list. so I used that one for the ants briefing) The Lost Files adds briefings to the Counterstrike and Aftermath missions, but it's still a mod, and too big to add as standard part of the TFD patch. You can get it here though: http://www.cncforums.com/new/local_links.p...&linkid=299 Share this post Link to post

Nyerguds 100 Posted February 13, 2011 Well, TLF is an addon mod; it doesn't change or replace any original files, so it can't really screw up anything Share this post Link to post
Prisoner416 2 Posted February 15, 2011 Lol, Nyerguds, I was looking for the specific video I was referring to, only to discover that I really was closer to discovering your patch and this site then I knew a year ago. Coolgamer1677 is me. The comment- Simply put, this is the best Tanya ever. A believable role as a civilian taking the fight into her own hands. Pretty, but not distractingly so or "bimbo" about it. The BEST SCENE EVER in the series when she's tied to that chair, having the injection needle dragged along her face. The spy rushes in, tosses her the gun as he dies, and she slams the Russian down and pins her with her chair and shoots him pint-blank multiple times, hands still tied to the chair and behind her back. That is TANYA. Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 100 Posted February 16, 2011 heh. Well very few people go from YT to peoples' websites I guess. Share this post Link to post
Prisoner416 2 Posted February 17, 2011 The Lost Files adds briefings to the Counterstrike and Aftermath missions, but it's still a mod, and too big to add as standard part of the TFD patch. You can get it here though: http://www.cncforums.com/new/local_links.p...&linkid=299 Considering that you added other lost missions and videos with the current patch, I think it would be great to add the Lost Files videos as well, so it's all in one spot. I would be willing to host the file if that's really an issue. Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 100 Posted February 18, 2011 If it were just the videos, I'd tend to agree, but the fact it can't be integrated into the normal game and needs a separate executable makes it kinda messy, imo. As for the file size, hosting is hardly the issue... it's whether all people want the extra 200 mb weight on their download. Also, I'm not exactly sure which extra videos you mean, besides the ants briefing... or does the latest version still contain that Firestorm videos addon? If it does, that was a mistake, you know; I never wanted it added to the patch because I knew modifying the movies list meant that the game is flagged as 'incompatible' when trying to play online. It's retarded, but it's a result of the movies list being inside artfs.ini. Share this post Link to post
AlexB 8 Posted February 18, 2011 Is it allowed to use an approach involving Syringe to expand the list? If it is, I already solved it. So if you are interested and I find time to expand upon that, maybe I could help out here. Share this post Link to post

Almost all Counterstrike and some Aftermath missions got video briefings and endings. You mentioned other videos already in the 1.03 patch. I wasn't talking about the TLF ones. CCHyper 3 Posted February 19, 2011 This about the movies list again? Sure i wrote up some code for that. I shal search. Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 100 Posted February 19, 2011 well I need to add about 30 vids for this. Though one of them is the intro and I'm not sure where to put that if I'd keep the original, lol. Share this post Link to post
AlexB 8 Posted February 19, 2011 Well, if anyone wants to test this anyhow, copy the contents of this zip file into your RA folder. You'll need to rename the TLF files in the RA folder to SC-MOVS.MIX and SC-MISS.MIX respectively. Now you run MagicRA.bat and all videos will play for original campaigns as well as the addon missions. Clicking Intro/Sneak Peek will play the original intro and the Retaliation intro right after that. Should work with any english v3.03 version. Psh, if it involves hacking of any kind I can fix it in a few minutes too, using Hyper's expanded exe. Yeah, I'm sure you do. I disassembled RA not even three weeks ago, and C&C95 not even two days ago. What could I have found in this timeframe you don't know already? Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 100 Posted February 19, 2011 Well, I never disassembler RA, but (not even counting the fact I got Hyper's database) the videos should be dead easy, since they're directly derived from strings. Anything directly connected to strings is dead easy to find Neat addition though. Never knew anyone would be messing with syringe on RA btw, the batch file only says syringe.exe "ra95.dat" - how does it know to use the magic.dll? Does it scan for the .inj files? As for C&C95 though... which version are you disassembling? Share this post Link to post
AlexB 8 Posted February 19, 2011 (edited) I just disassebled your latest public 1.06c. (Don't fear, I'm neither going to alter it or steal something nor am I rivalling you ). I just needed a small break from Ares and thus tried to find my way through RA from scratch. Two days ago I wanted to know whether the stuff I learned from that could be translated to C&C95. Syringe searches for *.dll and *.dll.inj pairs and includes them automatically. Btw, the dll does more than just expand the list of movie by a fixed set -- it is expanded dynamically. Whenever a movie is encountered that could not be found in the list, it is added automatically. Supports up to 255 movies. Edited February 19, 2011 by AlexB Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 100 Posted February 19, 2011 Oh cool, lol. I just wanted to say I don't mind sharing my C&C95 IDA database... if you got IDA pro 5.5.0, that is. Share this post Link to post
AlexB 8 Posted February 19, 2011 I'd like to sniff around in the IDA, sure . It's like reading the first book of a quadrilogy (the final part is complicated!). Even tough cncfan now deinterlaces videos and map selections, would it still help to know more about the way pixels find their way to the monitor/enable original deinterlacing algorithm? Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 100 Posted February 19, 2011 Original? I think you're missing something here... the fact DOS C&C doesn't have scan lines isn't because it uses a different stretching algorithm, it's because the graphics were MADE for its 320x200 resolution, and not stretched at all. Share this post Link to post
AlexB 8 Posted February 19, 2011 (edited) I'm currently writing a longer post in the other thread. I mean indeed the original deinterlacing algorithm that is in the game but it seems it isn't used anywhere. EDIT: Here is the decription of how the game resizes images. Nyerguds 100 Posted February 20, 2011 I just realized your solution for the RA videos isn't a good one... the main problem with RA vids which prevents simply removing the list check is that the savegames only save the video's ID. Your solution will allow playing any new video WHEN LOADED FROM A MISSION, but if you just start the game and load a savegame of the mission, and then try to replay its briefing, it won't find a video for the ID stored in the savegame. C&C1 simply saves the filename (minus .vqa part) in its savegames. Share this post Link to post
