I just saw Predators (2010)

Recommended Posts

I saw Predators last night... I'm not sure how to rate it... solid? average? meh?

Nothing beats the original... for it's originality.

Nothing new... apart from the location.

It doesn't add really much to the predators universe... other than warring factions within the race.

It sorta rubs me the wrong way... all these advantages the guys have but yet they go on and on about being great hunters...

It's like sending a cruise missile to kill a deer with a aircraft carrier and satellite recon etc.

If they were a real hunter they should have given the prey all the advantages and still hunt/attack them...

As I mentioned it before... I would like to see a Spec-Ops team of humans hunting the predators from the start of the movie.

A specialist team that is experienced in this sort of vengeance/irradiation etc

It's a minor quibble but in last night's movie there was a "flushing out" tactic against the humans.

I was severely unimpressed by lack of discipline, ammo conservation, and poor aim of the elite goon squad.

Saw it last night too in the theater.

I'm not surprised at all. There's not really anything new, and a lot of scenes seemed like they where taken from the first movie and had been modified to fit the new one.

It was as I expected; a mediocre action movie.

But wtf was up with that amateur fire explosion effects in the mining site scene? That looked ridiculous!

I was debating on seeing this but this isn't giving me any reasons to do so.

If you want to see a "nothing special" but entertaining action movie, then watch it. If not, stay faaar away.

Hardcore Predator fans are pissed off that this shot from one of the teaser trailers is missing in action from the final cut of the movie.

I liked this quote from the original article....

That image says: "This film is turning it up to 11,000. We're not just recreating the original Predator with an alien jungle instead of an Earth jungle. We're giving you TOO MANY PREDATORS. They're going to be relentless. They're going to be everywhere, like Lord Of The Rings Orcs or some ****. You'll have Predators coming out of every one of your orifices, and you're going to like it."

But anyway this images didn't bother me, what bother me was the lack of Rodriguez in the nitty gritty of the behind the scenes.

I agree, on reflection the film seemed organic... and is an okay film. But the end result was merely a reset not a progression of the story... and the reset was unnecessary considering the brilliance of the first attempt.

Random quotes from the comments at the link...

I don't mind that the shot was different in the movie. At all. I'm a pretty big Predator nerd, and the shot in the trailer actually bothered me. I think the Predators would think it was bad sportsmanship to go that many of them vs. one guy, and additionally, what the hell kind of hunter aims for the shoulder?? (Or anything that's not his head, basically)

So, the Predators are hunters. What I'd really like to see is a scene where they're back at their base camp after a day of hunting. There are some humans hung up to be cleaned later, but for now, it's just "the guys".

Someone grabs some Predator Beers from the space fridge and tosses them around. Everyone laughs and talks about what a great day it was hunting. Someone lets loose a Predator fart. A few them start teasing another one of them about having to ask his wife for permission to go. Then they all bitch about their jobs, and how they really don't want to go back to work on Glarday. Glardays are the WORST!

Then the dorky brother-in-law Predator of one of them comes stumbling back to camp. He's wearing an orange reflective safety hunting vest, and a cap with flaps over his ears. He's managed to break his Predator blaster. He starts whining about how the guys didn't wait up for him, and he didn't even know it was time to come back to camp. And he _almost_ got a human, but it got away. And, oh yeah, guys, he thinks it might have found their ship and their supplies, but he accidentally dropped his blaster and broke it, so he couldn't kill the human.

Then the guys all go quiet, glaring at the dorky brother-in-law, and then all the sh1t breaks loose as the human who found the ship stumbles in to camp with a Predator elephant gun and starts blasting.

I haven't seen it yet. However I did see an interesting comment in a review by Howard Tayler.

"The last line of the film, uttered at this moment by Adrien Brody, is something along the lines of "Let's find a way off this effing planet."

The last line SHOULD have been "Cool. Reinforcements."

Or, with proper set-up during the film, the last line could have been "Maybe one of THESE jarheads has coffee."

One of the catch-phrases of show-business is "leave 'em wanting more." My "reinforcements" line would leave audiences wanting more Predators, while the existing bit of dialog rings hollow and leaves us wanting to go home.

"
