PC Games development...

Recommended Posts

Is it me, or is the PC games industry hitting a solid brick wall at the moment... good quality games and their releases are in my opinion few and far between this year. We've had Far Cry, Unreal 2004 and er, erm, hmmmm er, yeah... that's really about it to be honest.

Half life 2 should be out in September / October time, but i don't think the summer for games looks too bright... I hear Ground control 2: Operation Exodus is being released, but i didn't think much of it playing the demo, another boring non-ground breaking RTS that's the same as everything out there....

I think we will have to wait for 2005 before we see any promise..... I'm sure by then we'll have Counterstrike 3 nearing completion, C&C 3: Tiberian Twighlight, and a whole host of potential classics on their way, but I'm sure this year isn't the year for PC games.. or am I wrong?

So is there light at the end of the tunnel? or is 2004 gonna be a year which hasn't seen much action for the PC games market?

yea i dont know whats going on with all the games....but i think they are slacking. either that or they have given up on making great games because of those few out there that are gonna control the market when they come out...like Halo 2, Half Life 2, and i heard Killzone will be just as good

In all honesty I'll be very suprised if we see a Tiberian Twilight. I think the C&C franchise as we knew and loved it is now dead, to be replaced with posers like Generals, Battle for Middle Earth, and so on. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Generals, and I'm sure BfME will be good, but it just isn't C&C. Only time will tell if there is any life in the C&C franchise anymore.

Yep Playstation is good for gaming. Good for social events... Few people tapping away on gamepads on a big ass tv... Isn't the same with a computer. It's more like a bunch of people all standing around some little screen in some tiny room of the house....

I doubt the gaming industry is hitting a solid brick wall. I mean they make more money than Hollywood!!!

Yeah but LANs are different. They're planned out and stuff. What I'm talking about is sort of spur of the moment sorta stuff.

Have some faith Rogue Leader, I think we are going to get another C&C game from an unlikely source

As for the current state of game development the thing that concerns me is the lack of originality theses days. I'm looking forward to huge releases such Half Life 2, Halo 2 and Doom 3 like everyone else but where are the new surprise titles?....the only one that comes to mind is FarCry. It got no hype, no big build up, it just showed up and became a hit. Because of that we will probably see FarCry 2 next year. See the trend?

I've always been highly critical towards id software ever since they announced Doom 3, I mean talking about beat a dead horse. Surely they could have come up with a better game for their new engine than Doom 3? Doom 3 looks great but come on the storyline is rubbish, blasting monsters on Mars that frighten you. Everyone will wizz through the short single player game that Doom 3 will have and play multiplayer anyway.

Once they are done with Doom 3 they are making Quake 4

All they have done in 10 years is give gamers the Doom series and Quake series.

Well if i liked Quake and Doom as much as C&C's then i'd be thrilled. Just think about it... They're giving the Quake and Doom fans what they want...

To be honest in my opinion, i do think that we will see a hell of a lot of annouincements for new games in the final quarter of this year and i certainly expect to hear a C&C title in there, no doubt, i'm totally confident in that..

Remember Rogue Leader, C&C is 10 years old next year!!! Why dump and kill such a successful series of games and it's brand name on it's decade anniversary? we'd all be up in arms, the community wouldn't allow it.. I just think that Harvard Bonin has an extremely exciting suprise for us to celebrate 10 years of C&C and I'm so sure in it...

But for those who did love Need for Speed Underground... the sequal is in development, so expect to see it earliest in december, but i'd say feb/march 2005 might be more realistic...

I have a PS2 yeah, but i'm not talking in terms of the whole games industry.... just our known and loved PC development teams... where they at? Hopefully coding and testing some killer games for next year

NFS Underground r0x0res! It's just what the series needed, a complete make over and attitude adjustment. Best racing game I've played since Daytona USA 2001 came out on Dreamcast!

Did you ever play Tokyo Highway Challenge on DC... it was 10x better than NFS:Underground...

It was way better than NFS: Underground...

On underground you had to change your decals so your rating was 5*'s and they seemed to get worse, on THC you could buy your car change it to how you liked and tune plus they way you play the game was much better.. chasing apponents then challegning them rather than having a fixed circuit..

My favorite NFS was hot persuit and still is....

NFS: Underground was a very strong racer.... ok you don't like it... get over it

There is without alot of doubt alot of improvement that can be made... but NFSU 2 will be rather like midnight club 2 where you go round the city looking for races!!

But no matter what anyone says, it's still my favourite race... they just need to make it a tad more difficult i think.... it proved a bit too easy for me even on hard.
