TylerG10 0 Posted January 10, 2012 Well I bought it from EA hoping to finish what I did not when I was a child. Problem is windows 7. I just downloaded the unoffical patch and was ready to play and now im stuck. Please help. Share this post Link to post
TylerG10 0 Posted January 10, 2012 Regenade is the only game of the 12 that works. When I try to play any of the others one it says Error: Unable to set video mode. Generals attempts to start up and then just freezes. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted January 11, 2012 Tried playing each game through compatibility mode for Win98 and running as administrator? Generals has its own problems, you can see a 6-page thread here about it Share this post Link to post
TylerG10 0 Posted January 11, 2012 Running as admin lets me see the screen but It still gives me unable to set video mode. I have tried compatibility mode and it brings it up but I cannot see it. If I hover my mouse over where it should be my mouse disapperars and then comes back after I leave the area. How do I run it in compatibility mode as a admin. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted January 11, 2012 Which compatibility mode do you set them to be? Win98 is recommended for Win7 Share this post Link to post
TylerG10 0 Posted January 12, 2012 I tried both. Each time it nothing pops up but I can see it running in my taskbar. And if I drag my cursor over it I can see it disappear and then reappear once I take it away from were the screen should be. How do I run compatability mode as a admin I only see the option to do one at a time. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted January 12, 2012 This might help: http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/cncstuff/installing_tfd.html Share this post Link to post
TylerG10 0 Posted January 12, 2012 Thanks for that. Its getting late so I'm gonna turn in for work tomorrow. I will be checking that out though. On a side note I called EA and they gave me C&C 4 for free on Origin and Origin will not even download the game. It takes forever and then goes from 95 to 70. And then it goes past 100. I'm not even sure how that's possible but it adds more then what the game contains. When it finally finished my anti virus popped up saying it had some problems. Anyone else have any exp with Origin. Its horrible so far. Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted January 12, 2012 Try to change resolution in rasetup.exe or ccsetup.exe (both can be found in C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade under the respective game folder) The unable to set video mode error is most likely because of an incomplete Direct X 9 install or faulty video driver. Get the latest driver for your video card and/or the latest DirectX 9 update. Share this post Link to post
TylerG10 0 Posted January 12, 2012 I just updated my drivers at the AMD website yesterday and my comp says I have directx 11. When I get back from work I will try the steps above. Thanks for the help I hope to play with some of you soon Share this post Link to post
TylerG10 0 Posted January 12, 2012 After going though most of the patching which I think I did right (except the red alert music one) I got it to play but only on certain resoultions and with really odd colors. Help? Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted January 12, 2012 Though you might have DirectX 11 you might be missing DirectX 9 components as they are separate things. To fix colors use cnc-ddraw it defaults to windowed mode so if you want fullscreen check the ini settings at the bottom. Share this post Link to post
TylerG10 0 Posted January 12, 2012 For tiberian dawn, covert operations, red alert, aftermath, counterstrike, tiberian sun, and firestorm I can get them to run if I set my resoultion down low enough. No matter what I put it on the edges still get cut off. I usually run in 1920 x 1080 since I use my tv as my moniter. Red alert 2 and yuris revenge will run just fine no problems at all except for having the remaining screen size as a black box if I put my resoultion in 1024 x 768 but those games support that in the options menu so I guess that makes sense. Generals and zero still do not start at all. Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) Can you post a screenshot (or picture) of the edges being cut off? Does Generals and Zero Hour give you error messages? Edit: Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 does support custom resolutions by editing SUN.ini and RA2(MD).ini, RA1 supports custom resolutions with the highly experimental RA-hires. C&C95 supports custom resolutions as of 1.06c revision 2 note that resolutions higher than 1024 x 768 might be bigger than some of the maps themselves in some of the games (C&C95 especially) Edited January 12, 2012 by Tore Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted January 13, 2012 RA2 and YR can both run in 1920x1080 without an issue. Just edit the ra2.ini and ra2md.ini files. Share this post Link to post
TylerG10 0 Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) If you can explain to me how to take and post a screenshot I will. Im not that good with computors mostly the files and all of that that lurks in a game. Can you please try to explain what you mean by edit the ra2.ini and ra2md.ini files. I did everything that Doctor Destiny said to do with the post to nyerguds fixes. Oddly enough I just tryed generals again for the hell of it in 1024 x 768 and it loaded a video about carpet bombs tomahawk missles and stuff and then went to a screen with blue tanks and humvees fighting off green buggys and then finally loaded. Same with zero hour. Edit: I don't see the ra2.ini and ra2md.ini files. I do see ra2. Ra2.lcf, ra2.mix, Ra2.tlb, ra2md.lcf, and ra2md.mix. Sorry for rambling but im not sure what all that means or if any of its redundant but they looked similar without the .ini ending on them. Edit: With all the tiberian wars games and the older red alerts its just a tiny portion of the screen that is cut off in 1024 x 724. Also does the mouse move extremely fast for anyone, like unplayable fast? The colors were gone except for red alerts videos which had some strange distoration and colors. The tiberian wars games videos were ok. Edited January 13, 2012 by TylerG10 Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted January 13, 2012 If you're hiding extensions, you might not see the file names correctly. I know the files exist cause all you need to do is open those files, find the Video section and change the Height/Width tags to what you need, otherwise it should just run with black bars on the sides. TylerG10 0 Posted January 13, 2012 Would I of had to hide the extensions myself or is it something the patch did. I have not touched anything in there. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted January 13, 2012 What Doc is referring to is the hiding of known file types. Its a Windows setting. Personally I like to see the file extensions. To enable this setting go to Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Folder Options, click the View tab then find the option "Hide extensions for known file types" and clear the check box, then click OK. I've highlighted in the screen shot below Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted January 13, 2012 He isn't going to find them since they aren't extracted by default. You either need to download clean copies of the inis or extract them with some modding tool. Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted January 13, 2012 He isn't going to find them since they aren't extracted by default. You either need to download clean copies of the inis or extract them with some modding tool. SUN.ini, RA2.ini and RA2MD.ini are in the directory by default. If not they are generated once the game is started. Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted January 13, 2012 Perhaps when I saw the RA2 folders without them was before they were played then. That seems rather unlikely, but if you are certain they are always generated automatically, that must be the case. Share this post Link to post
TylerG10 0 Posted January 17, 2012 I saw the files and changed them to the 1920x1080 but now its just a tiny box in the middle of my screen and the rest is all black. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted January 17, 2012 Nothing out of the ordinary. Westwood didn't expect RA2 to be played in such resolutions. When you're ingame, however, no black squares will appear. Share this post Link to post
