Generals 2 Could Be Using CG FMV Cinematics

Recommended Posts

Two job listings have appeared on the EA Jobs site for BioWare Victory. They are a Cinematic Environment Modeler and a Cinematic Modeler. This would suggest that Generals 2 could be using computer generated (CG) cinematic sequences rather than the traditional C&C trademark of using full live action cut-scenes.

This seems like logical move on BioWare Victory's part consided how powerful the the impressive Frostbite 2.0 engine is.

It seems the trailer will not be the only one...

Too bad, C&C pioneered live-action FMVs in '95, IIRC...

I don't mind in the case of Generals 2, as it is what they already did in Generals 1.

Now if they were doing away with live action in RA4 or C&C5, I might be a little annoyed.

The choice of one medium does not exclude the use of another, though ;)

Well, technically they did have those live action news reporters on the mission loading screens...

It would be awesome if they did live action screens for each of the Generals, in case of a Generals Challenge mode :)

Gee I wish Generals 2 would be more epic if Joe Kucan was in the team, but I guess he's retired from C&C.

The biggest part now in Generals 2 is that they need a story. No story, no purpose to the game itself. Every C&C game had one except for Generals, Sole Survivor and Tiberium Alliances.

Generals had a story, it was just quite weak.

CG has improved considerably since the good old days, there are quite some games that run well on pure CG graphics. The FMVs haven't been particularly realistic lately anyways, perhaps using CG means they are wasting less money on "marketing assets" as in RA3 and focus on the substantial parts of SP storytelling instead.

I hope they go with full CG over live action. then all they need to do is get good voice actors. Plenty of them around these days. As I said in the original news post, the Frostbite 2.0 engine can do some powerful things.

I hope the CG in Generals 2 will be similar to what Relic did to Company of Heroes.

They are looking for cinematic environment modelers with a requirement for "hard surface skinning" (opposed to organic surfaces). That does not really fit creating people (at least not to be used in the foreground of a movie). It could mean virtual sets or matte paintings for live action sequences, or action scenes like the ones featured in the earlier games. But of course, they could have hired people already who animate characters.
