64-bit Windows Operating System Required for Generals 2?

Recommended Posts

I mean, the last DX release that XP supported was released in 2004

Wrong. The last DX9.0c update was from 2008 and the web updater is from 2010.

Nevertheless modern games doesn't use that DX.

I think it's great that games start to make use of more modern technologies. 64-bit processors started to enter the mainstream in 2003 with the release of the Athlon 64 and only today, 9 years later the mainstream start to make proper use of the power 64-bit processors has to offer.

In my option Windows XP should have been replaced years ago. Microsoft themselves have stated that Windows XP is a freak version of Windows that lived far over its projected lifespan due to the development issues they had with Windows Longhorn. This is confirmed by looking at the release dates of Windows for the home market: 1.0 (1985), 2.0 (1987), 3.0 (1990), 3.1 (1992), 95 (1995), 98 (1998/1999 for SE), 2000 and ME (2000), XP (2001). Most of these Windows versions were released two or three years apart except for XP which was rushed to meet the failure which was ME in the home market. Longhorn was supposed to be released in 2003, but was pushed to 2006 when it was released as Vista, followed by 7 in 2009 and 8 in 2012.

That's because 32-bit versions are cheaper.

Last time I checked the 32 and 64-bit version of Windows 7 were on the same disc, costing the same.

,

You will be hard pressed to find a new computer today without a 64.bit version of Windows installed. Computers supporting 64-bit instructions were common even back in 2006.

Like it or hate it technology moves on just like everything else (albeit in a faster pace)

That's still not DirectX 10, which XP doesn't support.

I'm not particularly interested in debating the merits of a statement that come at a time when computer parts are incredibly cheap in relation to how powerful they are. That being said, you missed my entire point. I will restate it for you. EA ran a demographic for this game's development. They already know who can and cannot run it. If at any time they felt that they would make more money by developing for a 32 bit OS, they would do it. You do remember that they thoroughly enjoy making a considerable profit off their investment, I hope. It has nothing to do with being "considerate" and everything to do with being a business that cares about turning a profit for their shareholders.

Fair enough.
