Tiberium Crystal War v1.51 Released

Recommended Posts

Version 1.51 of the standalone Renegade mod Tiberium Crystal War has been released. This version adds the veterancy logic, new maps, updated existing maps, a new Power Packs upgrade, 15-second capture times for Tiberium Spikes and much more. Here's a sample video of the new Bridge Control map.

All you have to do is run version 1.50 and let the game update itself. If you don't have version 1.50, you can grab it right here.

This C&C game updates more frequently a lot more than Renegade-X. More content = more fun.

I've just finished my new map called "Ferk":

I hope you like it :)

Another one is in the makes, although trees and rocks are missing on this shot:

This C&C game

It's a mod, not a game. It also plagiarizes content from CC3. Is that what we're reduced to for modding these days?

A new map frost is also included in the game:

:)

Made by Mauler.

It is a domination style map where you must capture control poins to win the game.

The more control points your team owns the more vehicles they have at their disposal and the more likely you are gonna win.

Your team needs approx. 2500 points to win, each control point grants one point per second and there are 5.

Mauler has skills - why don't you have him model and paint these buildings\vehicles instead of ripping them out of CC3 and calling it your own work?

And your work in APB isn't plagiarizing RA1 and copyright infrigement towards Westwood, hypocrite?

And for the love of God, don't downvote every post related to this. Is it really necessary to say you dislike the link to an IRC channel?

I think he means the actual graphics can be extracted from C&C3 and placed into the Renegade engine with minimal modifications required.

Personally, I don't see that as much of a problem, I often steal resources from TD, RA1, and TS for my YR mods.

And I am no expert on copyright law, but I believe mods do not infringe copyrights, even if the company tells you not to make them. I think fans are just more willing to submit to a company's team of pricy lawyers rather than go to court over something so trivial as producing free content for the benefit of other fans.

Then what I hear is not "I think you'd be better off with making your own models instead of extracting existing ones" but "PLAGIARISM! LAME, FAKE! RAGE HAET!!!!11!!!1"

There is more work to it than you think. Its not a simple "copy and paste and hope it works"... There is quite a bit of customization and coding involved before it ACTUALLY works the way it should.

Anyway, i dont really care what ACK thinks about it, he doesnt like it, big deal :)

Yes, you got it now.

ACK is very, very opinionated. Most people eventually reach that conclusion, some faster than others. He appears to be embittered by you not being more forthcoming about your methods as well. I guess he wants you to put asterisks on every model and say, oh by the way, we extracted this out of C&C3 rather than recreate the exact same thing from scratch which would have taken ten times as long.

There is a massive difference between basing your work on something previously made (such as re-creating RA/TD/TS/RA2/etc in first person) and taking models from a game and calling it your own work, or passing it off as such. That is my issue with this mod. They're taking models from a game they don't own the rights to and putting it into a mod and calling the mod "their work", which is mostly inaccurate and could be construed as lying. I don't want him to put a disclaimer up saying "We didn't make any of these models, they were ripped/stolen/borrowed/pilfered from CC3!" I want him to put his talented modeler to use by re-creating these buildings for Renegade's engine. Here's some good reasons why:

CC3 textures aren't up to spec for first-person. They're low-res, lacking detail, and look out of place in a FPS due to that.

CC3 models - while having more geometric detail than Renegade models - are still lacking important visual cues that are placed for FPS - such as putting detail in the most important areas of the model that give it enough definition that it doesn't look odd when viewed up-close. You should have player-sized references on the model, like ladders, machine guns, etc. Not just RTS-optimized models which have basic blocked out shapes for the smallest details, if they exist at all.

Your team didn't make the models, so you're unable to claim that this mod is entirely your work. I imagine there would be a sense of pride in re-creating the visual theme of CC3 without stealing content from it.

Also, "i don't care" has to be the laziest possible reply. If you didn't care, you wouldn't respond to it at all. You obviously do care.

/Nowhere did I say anything remotely analogous to "RAEG HAET!!1LOL"

//Please stop mischaracterizing my posts because you either disagree with them or can't understand what I'm saying

///Thanks in advance

Mods are by definition, not entirely your work. I think there is a massive difference between "pilfering" resources from another C&C game than say, another mod or non-C&C game.

I don't, considering it's still a form of art theft. If they were reusing models from the game to mod it, such as re-using Renegade models in a Renegade mod, I wouldn't have anything to say. However, what they're doing is taking CC3 models and putting them in with Renegade models, and they're not compatible in art style at all. Zunnie has talented team members who could be putting a better visual style into this mod instead of fast-tracking it into art hell. The clash in visuals is jarring. If that doesn't bug anyone, I imagine our standards must have lowered to the point of "Hey, at least they're making a mod for C&C!"

His response could also be aimed at us so we don't think that he's troubled by your nonsense?

In other news, I believe some models like the GDI War Factory have been made in a way closer to what we call "from scratch". I've seen some WIP's while they were made. If EA hasn't found anything wrong yet, they hardly ever will.

Listen up, and listen carefully. You will not have this "I'm smarter than you, so you cannot understand me" attitude at me, or anyone else, you hear? I already get dizzy as soon as I see your name in a thread, and you will not flame for no good reason as long as I can do something about it. Was I clear?

Oh yeah, and even with your "1 vote" on indiedb, we still got a big fat 9 rating, kthx :)

If you were even remotely an honest guy you would have voted a 4 or 5 for the work that we did do ourselves, but oh well :P

Thanks for voting anyway :)

Your threats are very hollow, "plokite wolf". I don't fear your Internet Forum Moderator power - what're you going to do, ban me? Say mean things to me over the Internet because you don't like what I'm writing? I do apologize that my rational words have you so twisted up that you feel it necessary to threaten me with your IFM abilities; I'm not interested in censoring criticism of a mod because they're thieving content from a commercially-available game. It may not be illegal, but that doesn't mean it's right. If you don't like discussions that aren't happy rainbows, you're in the wrong community. Oh, wait; that explains it - you're still new here, being from 2009. Carry on, then! ;-)

/"I already get dizzy as soon as I see your name in a thread"

//They make a drug for "problems" like that - it's called prozac

///Edit number two: You'll notice this thread only started its downward spiral when you resorted to personally attacking me and mischaracterizing my posts because you disagreed with them, or didn't understand what I was writing

////Faux outrage is amusing, honestly

For placeholders (aka temporary) using TW assets is fine in my opinion. But ACK has valid points, especially how he described the detail problems.

Shooting him down just because you dislike him helps neither the mod nor this thread. At least acknowledging his valid points would help. Sometimes criticism sounds harsh, but still most isn't as malicious as you might think.

As an example:

Me wanting to give something constructive to the now closed Mod Red Alert Synergy:

Link I commented how their recolor textures mess with the visibility, first they went all --Karma; on me but after a while they got it and fixed their issues. Resulting in comments like: This looks like a 100% improvement. Good work. while they could still improve it.

Agreed completely - placeholder use is fine. There wouldn't be any issues with that considering it would be for pre-release work, getting the size of the buildings estimated, etc... Releasing them as-is? That's tatamount to art theft, as I've mentioned. It may not be illegal, but it certainly isn't ethical. You have an art team working with you for the specific purpose of creating the assets you need. Stealing them from other games is wrong, even if there isn't any legal liability for it.

He isn't a moderator, he's News Team and he doesn't have the power to ban you. In fact, only the admins can actually ban people.

Debate is allowed, even somewhat heated debate, however personal attacks are not. As long as some civility can be maintained, no action will need to be taken here.

That's a rational way of looking at things. People aren't always going to agree; we should be able to disagree amicably at the very least.

@ACK - Downvoting everything I write in topics unrelated to this? How mature.

I may not be a moderator, that's true. But I can still delete posts.

@Aicraftkiller, please don't add or subtract reputation points on random posts, only use it in relevance to the actual post at hand. I've added a new rule for clarity on this subject in the Rules and Guidelines section. We should all take some time out of our posts to read through these rules and really understand what they mean. I think we can all learn a thing or two about respect. Like the great Malcolm X said, "Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery."

@Plokite_Wolf, I've restored your previous reputation points. Also, while you may have the ability to delete posts, you can only use this power to delete posts that are irrelevant to the conversation. So far, all of ACK's posts have been relevant to the conversation at hand.
