Valve has broken every Half-Life mod

Recommended Posts

Epic fail!

There's obviously no reason from Valve for changing how Half-Life 1 is meant to be played under Steam. Luckily I only installed the WON version of Half-Life 1 and never a Steam version. The Steam version has more options and additions added in but I think those options should also apply to the WON version. Why? Because the WON version of Half-Life 1 (latest version) does not need a disc or even an Internet connection to a cloud program like Steam. For that reason, this is why I never played the #1 Half-Life mod of all time in the first place (that's the Cry of Fear mod).

I wish Half-Life 1 is independent already so any mod can be played on any computer without major changes.

and here I am playing Sven-Coop on the Steam version of Half Life without any issues....

I see that they have removed Direct 3D as a rendering option which leaves us with OpenGL and software rendering modes which is ok as the D3D option was buggy. Probably related to the Mac and Linux versions

Sounds like something EA would do. :o

EA would never do that or else the others will get mad.

Yeah, like they care whether or not their fans are mad at them...

Why should they, if there's no reasonable argument? j/k there are plenty :P

As for Valve making fundamental changes on a 14 year old game breaking every single of nine gazillion community made mods... :o

Looking at the later comments seems like most of the mods work if you just install them to the right folders. :P

and in addition Valve has changed the file format to make updates easier thus making modding easier.

People are just overreacting as usual...though I haven't installed any other mod than Sven-Coop yet.
