Oh **** oh **** oh **** oh ****....

BURBANK & REDWOOD CITY, Calif.

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) and Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today announced a new multi-year exclusive licensing agreement to develop and publish globally new games based on Star Wars characters and storylines.

Under the agreement, EA will develop and publish new Star Wars titles for a core gaming audience, spanning all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres, while Disney will retain certain rights to develop new titles within the mobile, social, tablet and online game categories.

“This agreement demonstrates our commitment to creating quality game experiences that drive the popularity of the Star Wars franchise for years to come,” said John Pleasants, Co-President of Disney Interactive. “Collaborating with one of the world’s premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to our fans around the world.”

“Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe,” said EA Labels President Frank Gibeau. “Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Worst case scenario: Always-online singleplayers, overpriced games...
Best case scenario: Cool SP stories (Bioware), Battlefront 3 (this is where DICE could come in since they have experience with Battlefield ofcourse)...

But thats off the top of my head, I'll reserve my judgement for later. I just hope they make me a damn Battlefront 3 (as a smashing success at that) after all these years.

It will be series of games that tie in with the new movies. Quickly rushed together to cash in....any of the big publishers would love to have the Star War publishing rights. EA won the lottery here for sure.

Empire at War 2! :P

It'll be a Victory Games F2P though just like C&C... Almost an inevitability. Although, if done correctly, it could be rather good. But I have a feeling EA would love to use that franchise to get another Star Wars RTS out the door in some fashion.... Almost a bitter irony when you really think about it.

Nooooooooooooooooo!!

EA should never make Star Wars games. Do you know what happened to them making Harry Potter games? They all s**k!

And I thought Disney was going to buy EA in the first place. Instead this is definitely unexpected for.

Edit off-topic: Sonic is now the first guy here to get his 100th reputation.

Star Wars games have never been all that good to begin with, so EA can't really make things worse. ;)
