Could the future of RTS start with this?

Recommended Posts

A new RTS game is in the works for a future generation:

and

5000 units can be controlled at one time? :o I say that fits for a MMORTS or MOBA.

Thing is, this currently works well on a AMD CPU/GPU chip in one, now what about a separate Intel chip and a Nvidia video card to run a game like this?

I would be more interested in a capacity of about 20 players/factions with 100 units each, playing in teams or not.

A guy with 2000 units against the computer, I can't see much fun on that.

Bigger doesn't mean better. The gameplay would feel very spammy imo, which, whilst looking fun isn't really.

If by controlling thousands of units they mean the traditional RTS unit control scheme, I can't imagine how this can really be fun without getting frustrating or at least annoying. Commanding armies of this scale can be realistically accomplished by either having very sophisticated unit/unit group AI that would generally leave the player with giving orders on the strategic level and watching the show (which by the way is probably more realistic anyway), or the player will have to go down to the tactical level so to speak, and do the micromanagement personally. In the latter case you'll probably have to do that a lot if the army is huge, and there's a lot of potential for such a procedure to quickly get old.

What I would dream of is a place similar to the current movie theater where you go an plug your stuff and part of the crowd are players and the part are simply audience, so you use the big screen to present this huge map and the players have to find themselves with their gear. So in this sense, this kind of engine would be handy. It's a "presential" MMO.
