PurpleGaga27 40 Posted June 20, 2014 Because of my recent health issues, I decided to cut down on carbohydrates and sugar in all food areas and I still eat a lot of mixed veggies and fruits. Currently I am still struggling to gain some weight down the road. Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted June 20, 2014 If I'd be super skinny, I wouldn't worry about what's healthy or not, I'd just eat everything in front of me. Also, @Jehal, oats are actually one of the more nutricious carb sources, with plenty of minerals and fiber. Not to mention, it doesn't spike the **** out of your insuline, like bread and white potatoes do in most people. Share this post Link to post
Guest Stevie_K Posted June 23, 2014 Yes you are probably right Inferno. It might be that grains and oats are rich carb sources with plenty of minerals and fibers, but these still has to be absorbed in our bodies, and how well the human body is at digesting grains is what I am concerned with. Evolution works slower than our rapidly widening food habits (we are talking a million years probably). Grains have not been a part of the human diet long enough for the human body to have adapted to it very well I fear. I'd simply rather get nutrients from fresh food instead of fabricated oat drinks! It sounds healthy, but I'm pretty sure It's not a very good alternative to proper fresh food. Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted June 24, 2014 Then again, our bodies aren't made to deal with dairy either, but a life without cheese? **** that **** Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted June 24, 2014 Milk and oats being 'proper' food for humans is irrelevant, since you can survive off nothing but potatoes, milk, and oatmeal. Share this post Link to post
Guest Stevie_K Posted June 24, 2014 You need a lot less food to survive than you do in order to live healthily. I would not recommend a diet based solely on potatoes, milk and oatmeal. Calling the discussion on proper irrelevant based on that seems naive to say the least. Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted June 24, 2014 You said: how well the human body is at digesting grains is what I am concerned with.My answer: Well enough to survive off nothing but. Share this post Link to post
Guest Stevie_K Posted June 24, 2014 Surviving is not the same as living healthy. Therefore not irrelevant. Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted June 24, 2014 My point was since people can acquire sufficient nutrition to survive off eating nothing but three food types, speculating on if they provide sufficient nutrition is meaningless. Yes, people can digest them, yes, humans can get the nutrition out of them. Also, I think you are quite wrong with this statement: Evolution works slower than our rapidly widening food habits (we are talking a million years probably). Grains have not been a part of the human diet long enough for the human body to have adapted to it very well I fear. Humans can adapt to food quite quickly, often within a single lifetime. As in, what diet you are born into is what diet your body will be accustomed to. This isn't always true, and there are certainly things which are always going to be unhealthy simply because they are unhealthy. However, 'a million years' is simply not the case here. Some food allergies, which could be called bodies not adapting to that food type, can be cured through mithridatism, which is exposing yourself to small samples and gradually increasing the exposure over time. In other words, someone's body can adapt in one lifetime. When it comes to food, one of the few bare necessities required for survival, humans can adapt extremely fast and extremely well. Of course, if you have an intolerance for a certain food, and so avoid it like the plague, you will never adapt - though maybe after a million years. Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 102 Posted June 25, 2014 This is very true. And why people from Western culture should be careful when attempting true native Indian or Mexican food. Seriously. Those people have lead-lined stomachs... and it's purely because they grew up with that stuff. Share this post Link to post
