Saracen 16 Posted October 8, 2004 Unofficial word is that Half life 2 has gone gold.... Official word is that the reviews are now coming in for Half life 2!!!! and yes, this is true.. The PC Games mags here in the UK.. have loved it to be in their reviews... below a few of scores... PC Gamer - 96% PC Zone - 97% C&VG - 10/10 It's sweeping the boards clean... This game has been called the "Halo Killer!!" There's nothing stopping this shooter... and it's been said that it's 10 times better than the first Half Life!!! Now tell me you are not gonna get it Share this post Link to post
Phreakly 0 Posted October 8, 2004 Just wait for Vinvendi to push the release all the way back as far as they can to something like next may. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted October 8, 2004 I'll just wait till one of my mates is finished playin it and grab it off them. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted October 8, 2004 You bet your ass I'm getting HL2. Never been a huge fan of PC shooters but this has changed my mind. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted October 8, 2004 I recommend that everybody tries to get hold of the DVD collectors edition of the game (if you have a DVD drive) which will include Half life 2 Half life 1 - Converted to the source engine Counterstrike - Converted to the source engine Day of defeat - converted to source Loads more crap I can't remember Here's a small section of the PC Gamer Review There are a couple of moments in these twenty hours where something isn't perfect in its pace or placing, but these are minor, only memorable in stark contrast to the consistent brilliance of surrounding events. There is always something happening, something new. You find yourself plunging into it with relish. Just throwing things about is immediately appealing. You find yourself restraining the impulse to just pick up and hurl anything you encounter. (Free at last, I can interact!) Black Mesa veteran Dr Kleiner is remarkably relaxed about you trashing half his lab, just to see what can be grabbed or broken. Combine police take less kindly to having tin cans lobbed at their shiny gasmasks. Also of some interest, Select ATI videocards, including the new Radeon 9800XT and Radeon 9600XT will come bundled with a voucher entitling you to a "free" copy of Half-Life 2 once the game is released. Would that make you upgrade your card  Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted October 8, 2004 Half life 1 - Converted to the source engineCounterstrike - Converted to the source engine Day of defeat - converted to source What does converted to source mean? Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted October 8, 2004 CVG doesn't exist anymore. Future (publishers of PCGamer) bought them out and axed the magazine, replacing all subscribers with "GamesMaster". I'm well pissed off 'cos I didn't get my megga exclusive preview thing of Getaway 2. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted October 8, 2004 What does converted to source mean? In a nutshell it means that that games have been transferred to use the Half Life 2 Engine... while the games remain the same in shape and size. The whole game has a new unique look and feel.... just take a look at some of the counterstike sceenshots here... if you play Counterstrike you'll recognise where these shots are from on their particular parts of the level... but just look at the detail... marvellous From de_dust http://www.games-fusion.net/images/css_dust201.jpg Office http://www.games-fusion.net/images/css_office01.jpg And look, most of the game is like this, so hardly no more corridoor crap!!! http://pcmedia.gamespy.com/pc/image/articl...01075504037.jpg I'm going to pre-order this tomorrow (Saturday) I can't miss this for the world Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted October 9, 2004 Of course I'm getting Half-Life 2. I've been waiting for so long for it. I will get the DVD collectors edition as well. Half Life 2 a Halo killer.... doubt it. Two different games on two different platforms, they aren't really in direct competition. BTW, I fixed the post above. Large screen shots like that mess up the page layout.
