Capturing Video....

a year ago I bought a video capture card (tv-card)

I wanted to convert my VHS tapes to VCD

but at that time my PC didn't have the standards for

good capturing

and everytime I captured something, I kept losing frames

 

so later on I upgraded to an

 

AMD ATHLON XP 2500+

448 MB RAM

 

and I thought that this would solve the problem

but I still can't capture above

320x240(PAL)

without losing frames!!

 

does anyone know what the problem could be

my capture card is a

HAUPPAUGE WINTV PRO

(I've read somewhere that it can't capture above 320x240, but if it's true??)

Perhaps you need more RAM. Once Windows loads you probably have only half of the 448 MB available.

do you mean with the shared graphics memory

cause I actually got 512 MB RAM

but 64MB shared memory

I mean your total system memory.

 

You have 512 MB RAM but as you say 64 MB of it is reserved for your onboard video card. What you many need to do is increase your system memory.

Does it have a hardware MPEG2 encoder? (your TV card)? If you don't want framedrops, then I think you'll need it in hardware, and not in software like (some) TV cards have. I don't know what yours has... :?:

Ok, you need 1GB of ram to do good video capture. Try updating your drivers.

Hey this is kinda a little off topic but anyway... Can ya capture video that is currently playing on your screen? Like WinDVD which lets ya take screen shots of DVDs is there something like that that works with all types of video?

You can rip the contents of a DVD with the right software.

Yeah I know that bout how bout other video formats. Like wmv or mpg for example?

you can convert other video formats to something else. I wouldn't capture them directly from your computer because you lose quality. Windows Movie Maker can make videos, i jsut ahvent figured out how to get it to make them in dfifferent fromats from wmv

Use fraps to capture whatever's on your screen, noy sure if it works for DVDs, but it does work for in-game footage etc.
