Katamariguy 0 Posted January 16, 2016 I found the game two CDs in a store, and bought it. After some difficulty with installation, I am now attempting to start up the game. I've set it to XP compatibility and have uninstalled the KB308 update, but double clicking on either the game on my hard drive or autorun on the CD does not work. I am unable to find any other possible solutions for playing this game. OS: Windows 10 Processor: Intel Core i5 Graphics: ATI Radeon R9 M200X RAM: 8 GB Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted January 16, 2016 You haven't mentioned which game you are talking about... Share this post Link to post
Katamariguy 0 Posted January 17, 2016 Oh. Forgot to mention that the game in question is Generals, sans Zero Hour. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted January 17, 2016 Either you didn't disable the mentioned Windows Update from installing again or you're not running something as administrator. Share this post Link to post
Katamariguy 0 Posted January 18, 2016 I'm afraid that I have uninstalled the update and am unable to get results opening the executables as administrator. Would I want to attempt a reinstall? Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted January 18, 2016 Could you take a screenshot of your Hidden Updates list? Share this post Link to post
Katamariguy 0 Posted January 19, 2016 Here it is. It may update automatically, but for the time being it's not on the computer. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) Oh God, just now actually noticed you're on Windows 10. Well, that's a different story. The SafeDisc driver, which is used for copy protection in Generals and Zero Hour is disabled by default on that OS. You'll have to Google a way to re-enable it (I think you can see the info on Microsoft's information page for the KB3086255 update, ironically enough). You may need to manually place the required secdrv.sys file to C:\Windows\system32\drivers and the replace the one already there which is smaller. You can copy it from the Generals game directory. Lauren 78 Posted January 28, 2016 Sounds like the game cannot create the options.ini correctly and thus will silently fail to start. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted January 28, 2016 Under standard circumstances with the CD version in Windows 10, it can't quite get to that point anyway Share this post Link to post
PurpleGaga27 40 Posted January 28, 2016 That is why I don't play a single C&C game in Windows 10 anyway due to incompatibilities and the removal of DRM. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted January 31, 2016 You just made it sound like removing DRM was a bad thing. Share this post Link to post
