The Imperial Realm: Miranda

Recommended Posts

Back when I worked at EA there were a number of us who desperately wanted a new standalone C&C game. We'd play the old games at lunch. Talk multiplayer strategies over coffee. Poke around the company knowledge bases looking for hints of a new game in development. Sadly none of us were the people who make those kind of decisions and eventually I decided to put my money where my mouth is and I left to make my own Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 style RTS: The Imperial Realm::Miranda. It has taken 6 years but the new game I wanted is almost finished. I'm really looking forward to being able to play it over lunch.

So... you're Robert Basler from Secret Lair Games?

So the game of The Imperial Realm: Miranda from its official site looks pretty good for an open world of a looking-like RA2 remake, but when I read that it's going to be a MMORTS, ***yawns***.

I like to play a new C&C game with an open world where you can play single-player, multiplayer, co-op and optional maps of MOBA and MMO. C&C Generals 2 may become the latest C&C fan-based game to include something similar like that this under the Unity 3D engine.

Holy. .. you worked at EA :o

Actually, it isn't that surprising, EA is the biggest game development employer here in Vancouver so nearly everyone who works in games has worked there at one time or another :)

Yes...

C&C Generals 2 looks neat, I hadn't heard of that. Miranda has open-world multiplayer, it will have co-op (my favourite way to play Red Alert 2) and I have thought seriously about doing a single player campaign after the core game is done - but I can only do so much at once. What specifically about MMORTS do you find boring? There have been so few I'm always interested to talk to someone who has an opinion on them. Also could you expand on: "optional maps of MOBA and MMO"

I like playing a traditional RTS game with separate SP and MP. In SP, you play the campaigns and the skirmishes, and sometimes co-op if the second player is an AI. In MP, it's pretty such everything else but I seldom have interest in MP. The reason I am not into MMORTS is because it lacks SP unless a skirmish/practice mode exists, plus MP oftentimes isn't free to play. I know End of Nations and C&C Generals 2 tried to become MMORTS games, but both of them failed and got cancelled.

When I mean optional maps of MOBA and the MMO, it means that the original game should have original SP/MP content, plus a MOBA map(s) like Renegade Wars (a mod for C&C3 Kane's Wrath) that adds new gameplay to the original game, and plus a MMO map similar to all maps of Renegade-X.

As with most MMORTS and MMORPG games I know, none of them have a single-player campaign.

Well from my country it just look like faraway dream, in fact just talking with someone who worked in any major gaming company is like talking with rare unicorn that appear in a dungeon once a year, people in this area may see you as highly being xD

I don't know what your situation is, but I started making games as a kid with my friends using instructions out of magazines and a borrowed computer. If making games is your dream and you have access to a computer, all the software and knowledge you need is available on the web.

glade to see someone still making RTS game but from I check on your project I wonder if you do it alone? and seem like you lack of graphic artist in your team since seem like you bought RTS model pack from somewhere use for your game but honestly I saw so many game [i can list their name if you want] use that set of model for their game and it start to bore me when i saw them. [those pack really overused IMO] I hope you just use them just for place holder for the real thing that can make me feel more excite to see.

Thanks for the feedback. It is just me working on the game. I wish I could afford a variety of artists but that just isn't in the cards - at least initially. Quite a few of the buildings and vehicles are unique, the pre-made sets don't have enough for everything I need, but I have seen the core sets in other games. I am hoping that the novel gameplay and unique environment will help people overlook whatever artistic deficiencies there are until the game can support additional artistry.

Ah Ok I'm understand and admire you afford. I wonder if you make this project as side work or main job?

truly I really want to say I could help but my 3D skill quite out date [i'm more 2D guy now - -" ] and I also have other project to take care. which might be impossible to work under deadline.

even so I really want to know more about your game like story , faction, units from article I read mostly is about development but didn't say much about the game.

Building Miranda has been my main job for 6 years. Nearly done now. I wrote up an answer for your other question here.

Apparently this thread is a "let's talk about our own games instead of the main topic" thread.

Additionally, @onehalf, your game is absolutely copyright infringement. You're using resources from Tiberian Dawn (and probably others) in a commercial game.

My comment was split from another topic and has little to do with this thread anymore. Please delete it.
