brasilianmagic 0 Posted October 27, 2004 HI peeps, I've been searching for a solution to this problem for some time. I've even gone as far as using the technical help section of EA. But that was just a waste of time cause they didn't bother to reply. Basically, whenever i try to install RA2, , the setup.exe program shuts down giving me the the following message: setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. I've tried changing the compatability of the autorun file and the setup.exe file to (win 95 or 98) but it's not making any difference. Own own legal copies of RA2 & Yuri's revenge, but I feel that the problem is centered around RA2. Anyone got any ideas as how to solve this as me and a few of my mates here in london would love to play this game again. It's not the same without play Red Alert 2. Leon Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted October 28, 2004 Wierd, must be a hardware or driver incompatability problem 'cos XP itself doesn't cause any problems with RA2/YR. Share this post Link to post

J-Fire_Man 0 Posted October 30, 2004 Install XP SP2 and then set the compatibility of RA2 and YR exe to 98. And it would be better if you update 'em into the latest version. I've encountered this kind of problem before, and I already have fixed it. This too apply to TS. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted October 30, 2004 You should check there isn't any probelms with the CDs. Problem could be that the setup program can't read files off the CD so exits out. Share this post Link to post
jruff007 0 Posted March 4, 2005 hey, i have the same problem when i built a new system for myself. the one i built has a abit as8 intel 865 pe chipset socket lg775 with a new sata hard drive and memory. my rom's , audio and video card are the same. it might be something with sata hard drives if you have one, or it might not. i'm just trying to figure it out. my cd's look fine, in fact they play fine on other pc's. i have tried compatiability, but if you can't install it you can't set compatibility anyway. i've tried newer and older drivers, my opinioin is that's not it, at least in my case. good luck Share this post Link to post
Ralph 0 Posted March 9, 2005 Same problem w/ XP. Can't run RA2. Use to without any problem but then something changed. What? No clue. Running setup as 95 or 98 did nothing. I suspect ATI drivers.... what video cards are having the problem? I'm running 9600xt. I can only remember updating Catalyst drivers. I think I then fell back to onboard Nvidea chipset w/ no luck. ??? It's a pickle. xp, amd2600, 256mb 3200. no sata drive just ide If anyone can specifically describe the fix... PLEASE... I MISS THE HELL OUT OF THIS GAME! Share this post Link to post

Cygnus X-1 12 Posted April 10, 2005 Simple thing thats lots of people miss: install as admin. Turn virus scan off. Use the first CD drive, as opposed to the second (if there are two) I run XP pro SP2 myself, RA2 YR and TS all run perfectly fine, the only one running compatability for Win95 is RA. You may try this: Install it on a different comp, then move all the C&C files to a portable USB drive. Then tranfer everything from the USB drive to your comp, then look around the C&C comunity for all the patches and updates, especially the ones that allow you to play with out the disks.
