nugg0t 0 Posted October 1, 2005 I wanted to try the game out, and a guy I used to work with had it. He tried putting it on his new PC, and I think it was a pirated version, but on the newer computer it didn't go. I asked around and followed a suggestion to try changing anything to do with the windows settings, ie: Style XP and other graphic programs. I uninstalled style XP, tried it, voila! It worked. Then he reinstalled style XP and it was fine. His problem had the same symptoms as yours. A black screen, then a return to Windows. Hope it helps, can anyone help solve my problem on how to install the game in the first place?? My install icons don't work They just crash and ask me if I want to tell Microsoft about it. EDIT: I fixed my problem as mentioned in another thread titled "Installing RA2 with XP, SP2. If you have problems, read this." Some of the tips in that link may help you. Share this post Link to post
Guest Smart246 Posted October 6, 2005 no, chickendippers, it's from their damn servers with all those "Cheaters" and "Hackers" Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted October 8, 2005 Huh? The only way to get Spyware is to follow one of the links those bots post post....that's not from the WOL servers themselves. Anyway; it's not a problem now that it's being run by XWIS Share this post Link to post
Guest Smart246 Posted October 8, 2005 i wasn't refering to "WOL" or "XWIS Servers" i was refering to westwoods online/mutilplayer servers Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted October 9, 2005 Westwoods online/mutilplayer servers were run by Westwood, then EA - there cannot be a spyware or virus' on them...it's your computer trust me. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted October 9, 2005 unfortunately there are certain things fans can't do - creating a patch is one of them *cough* Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted October 9, 2005 i had problems like this but ifixed mine by going here http://eatech.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eatech....20$p_sid%20?%3e some of the solutions are a bit basic but the the SafeDisk update. It fixed it for me Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted October 9, 2005 why should i trust you? Cause he's right. WOL/XWIS servers do not contain any form of virus or any spyware. You were infected from another source so just one of the many available programs to clean up your drive. Share this post Link to post
Guest Smart246 Posted October 9, 2005 so your saying that my anti-virus programs are not working properlly? Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted October 9, 2005 That could be the issue but there's more than likely a good chunk of spyware on your drive as well. Share this post Link to post
Guest Smart246 Posted October 9, 2005 every time in the mornings after going to bed and letting the computer "Rest" i have to run spybot remover and remove that sh!t. every goddamn time, can you believe it? Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted October 10, 2005 You've probably got a virus that keeps installing more spyware - my brother did that. Everytime I ran a spyware scan it removed all the stuff, but the next day it would reappear. Just start your computer in safe mode, run a complete virus scan (including subdirectories and archives) then run a thourough scan with a few pieces anti-spyware software, my killer combination is Adaware, Spybot S&D and Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta.
