Microsoft wants to buy GitHub

Recommended Posts

I hope they'll fail to do it (although I doubt it to be honest).

Why do you think it's too bad? Terrible past practices? Microsoft used to have their own app against GitHub but it was not successful.... and because of this,  more and more developers are transferring their material from GitHub to another competitor, GitLab.

Because:

- ever since Ballmer took over MS (and his successors didn't change this), MS' average product quality tanked

- Skype is a flaming dumpster of insecurity, poor code, neglect and data sale

- the Windows Phone fiasco that culminated with the buyout of Nokia's mobile branch

And not just tanked, but their policies and objectives got much worse. They treat all users as retards, install Bing and Yahoo bloatware on your system (and prevent you from removing it), mine a lot of your personal data forcing your consent without caring for your power bills/battery replacement costs, force updates into your system that may deteriorate your experience with the system, etc...

Exactly what he ^ said.

And they also use Linkedin and GitHub to throw up their garbage office programs into you and collect data and perhaps your source code for reasons that may not agree with, because they'll certainly fill their terms of use with a bunch of crap that you won't read to do that.

The first statement is true (except for Xbox). The only Windows OSs that are still below product quality are Windows Me, Vista, 8 and the mobile versions. Back then the first release of Windows 10 is of below average product quality than Windows 7/XP with some missing content and must rely on installing lots of 3rd party content from previous Windows versions.... and recently now with some upgrades and improvements it's still below average product quality.

The Windows Phone on the other hand couldn't match the quality and greatness with Android and iOS phones.

I doubt Microsoft's acquisition of GitHub will change anything. They're getting too invested in it. When they got LinkedIn, guess what changed? That's right. Sweet fuck all changed. I don't even use it much and it was the same as it was 8 years ago when I used it actively. Microsoft is trying to get into open source. Hell, they have some of their own products on there and they've committed to Linux quite well. Ballmer is gone and Gates really doesn't do much anymore. Their product quality is actually on the rise. I don't use Windows 10, Office 2016 and Visual Studio because they're bad. Far, far from it...
