Problem Accessing site

Recommended Posts

The forums work OK, I can get to them from my e-mail. But the main page has been down for two days now, I cant go anywhere but the forums from my e-mail links.

Looks like this.

Warning: main(/home/cncnz/public_html/ssi_top.shtml): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home2/cncnz/public_html/index.php on line 4

And it keeps on going and going. No site.

GS moved servers and the CNCNZ nameservers were not changed quick enough. CNC Source was also down.

Well, someone learned a lesson somewhere (hopefully) and we wont have to worry about it again.

The outage was mostly my fault. Robin (the man in charge of Gaming Source) e-mails important info like a DNS change to my private ISP e-mail account, I changed ISP's last month and forgot to let Robin know about my new address. I had no idea this was happening so when Gaming Source switched things over to the new server CNCNZ.com was still pointing to the old server.

I couldn't see the cncnz.com or forums.cncnz.com, basically anything to with cncnz.com for 2 days. I made the DNS change late Sunday night (NZ time). It starting working again early Tuesday morning for me.

In other words DNS changes can take 24-48 hours to take effect. During the change over period strange things can happen, you can't reach the site at all, or you may see any subdomains but the domain doesn't work as Cygnus X-1 described above.

Anyway its all back to normal to now, no data has been lost.

Gaming Source itself was offline for a day or so.

I believe Sonic something like Gaming source, cncnz, and other sites being offline durring the server change.

The thing is had I known that our DNS was going change the downtime would have been very short, or un-noticable to most people.

I wasn't worried about the downtime because I knew our data was safe.

Yeah it'd be a bit gay having to register again.

I make a back up the forum's MySQL database every week, we wouldn't have lost it.

I don't know. Keep a back up of the back up

That would be a lot of backup.

Theres always a way around security measures, lets get competitive on who can come up with a way to mess the site mem up, and who can find a way to prevent it.

Cygnus we don't want to come up with way to mess up sites. Trust me.

There are enough people already who do such things for 'fun'

Excuse me, then. I meant to say think up a scenario where the site mem would be in jeapordy, like a server change, or a total blackout. Not actual hacking and virus distributing.
