Saracen 16 Posted May 13, 2005 Old news really.... I knew what the X Box 360 looked like about a month ago  It was hardly a rumour since the amount of leaked pictures and information on the net highly detail what is there already. Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted May 13, 2005 http://www.xbox360.com Paraphrase from a press-release: ...The console will be powered by three IBM PowerPC CPUs, each one running at 3.2Ghz......The whole system uses a water-cooling system to keep the temperature down, much like the high-end Apple PowerMac G5 desktop computers... ...Has standard 20Gb hard drive (upgradable) and 512Mb RAM... ...wireless controllers, wi-fi ready, standard usb ports, can plug video camera into it, can download music onto it (and stream of media players - possibly ipod) and play them in-game... Saracen 16 Posted May 13, 2005 Funny thing is that the PS3 was going to use only one of these IBM chips. But they held back on it until Microsoft released this machine... now latest talk is that the Playstation 3's initial prototype is being scrapped and put back to the drawing board... Expect a late 2006 release for it now. Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted May 14, 2005 Well if I buy any machine, price will be an important consideration...but games will be the deal-breaker. Share this post Link to post
dapperdan 0 Posted May 14, 2005 i think it's good that the consoles are evolving at a fantastic rate, but i thnikk one of the downsides is that they are adding all these functions and one day they will effectively just become a PC. such as the ports for cameras, video cameras, and media streaming, i cn do that on my PC, the cpu's are water cooled, pc's can be water cooled, upgradable HD's, i can upgrade my HD, etc etc.the only problem is, is that we can't upgrade the cpu's, or GPU ourselves, so we end up having to buy a new console anyway to get the best stuff. btw, chances are despite all i just said, i will get a PS3. Sonic 296 Posted May 14, 2005 The way I see it is Microsoft is now in position to over take Sony. The XBox 360 is light years ahead of what Sony have planned and they (Sony) are worried. I read somewhere that Microsoft expect the Xbox 360 to retail at about $US300. I'm locking this thread, continue XBox 360 discussion in the new WebWire thread found here http://forums.cncnz.com/viewtopic.php?t=3149 Share this post Link to post
