New Action RTS - Darwinia

OK you've seen my new signature, but wondered what it's all about. Well I'm about to plug this game because I've bought it, and it is something special!!!

 

The world of Darwinia is a virtual themepark, running inside a computer network built by a computer genius named Dr Sepulveda. Darwinia is populated by a sentient evolving life form called the Darwinians. They are the product of a decades worth of research into genetic algorithms.

 

Unfortunately, the systems of Darwinia have been overrun by an evil red Viral Infection. This Virus has multiplied out of control and must be stopped. Your task is to destroy the Viral Infection and save the Darwinians from extinction.

 

This game was made by 4 men right here in the UK with 3 laptops and no money... Here's what the games mags have said.

These are just a handful... I knew that this game was different, but it really is something special... Afterall if PC Gamer can dedicate 4 pages of review to this game, then something must be right! Although I have called it an Action RTS, it's really a retro action shooter RTS styled Tron inspired game... Whatever genre it fits into, it rocks and that's all that matters!

Yeh the Graphic type is Tron, I got a Tron game lol

I love the little Intros at the beginning. Things like the old Commodore 64 & Spectrum loading screens, as well as the more modern approach where you see little green stick men (The Darwinians) fallign from the screen in a "Matrix" code like fashion.

 

This game attempts to be a retro commodore 64 game with a 3D engine and modern day RTS elements... and it's been pulled off perfectly.

 

Like Introversion's previous game Uplink, this is truly one of a kind! I made the mention about Tron because if you have been to the site you may have noticed the engineers in the game look exactly like the Tron battle crusiers!

 

Although the demo does not do this game justice, it might be worth the 10Mb download to give it a try... I believe more people should support small team Bedroom programmers and not just the EA supergiants!

The thing I do love about this game though is the battles you can have... some will rage on for an awful long time unless you adopt strategies to gain tactical advantage..

 

I just cannot wait until I meet these spiders that PC Gamer go on about... aparently they spawn from nest areas and have the ability to jump around anywhere on a map ,multiply quickly by laying eggs, and jump somewhere else usually right on top of you...

 

The scurge and frustration of the game these are aparently. Is that they usually control and defend the bottlenecks, 1 way entrances and any highly strategical areas of a map and are a tough cookie to kill when they spawn so rapidly...

Friend of mine has had it for ages, seems to me all you do is click to spawn soldiers to kill the random red triangles.

The retro-esque graphics are cool though.

Trust me there is a hell of a lot more to it than that... You have to play it for a while to realise how deep this game is.. It's not as shallow as most games.... Read the reviews presented on the website including the PC gamer review scans, and you'll see why.
