Saracen 16 Posted June 16, 2005 **W00t, 1,000th post** Is it me or are spyware problems now escalating out of control?? I'm having to run a system scan every day without fail or my machine slows down to a halt, freezing every minute or so. Yesterday I found 27 spyware traces, today 40!! And whatever was in this bunch caused the extra annoying XP blue screen of death about 5 minutes after boot up!! I don't even go around many sites, just stick to those I trust, yet it doesn't matter. This machine is a magnet beyond control. Thank god I have a good spyware removal utility otherwise I would have stuck a hammer through this machine by now :megafrown: Of course it's now running as smoothly as like I have just formatted the hard disk.. but I'm not counting on that lasting 24 hours  How bad is your spyware magnet? Doctor Destiny 41 Posted June 16, 2005 It's not. I just keep it clean with Ad-Aware SE. My computer is by no means a fortress or a magnet. Share this post Link to post
Thierry 0 Posted June 16, 2005 Same here, I keep it out all, I use Spyware Blaster to prevent it from getting in, and if something does get in I use Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware, never failed me. And the programs are all free-ware  Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 16, 2005 My system stays clean, the only thing Spybot ever finds are tracking cookies from banner ads etc...., but they aren't really harmful. For system security I run these programs. - Norton AntiVirus (weekly full system scans) - ZoneAlarm Pro - Spybot (scan once a once week) - Adware (scan once a once week) - HijackThis Plus I keep all these programs updated as well. C&C King, are using IE as your primary browser? Dump it and switch to Firefox. Share this post Link to post

chickendippers 1 Posted June 16, 2005 My XP gaming computer (which my littler brother uses a lot) has: + McAfee Virus Scan (has spyware scan built in) + Microsoft Anti-Spyware thing (scans and keeps spyware out) + Adaware SE (good scanner) + Spybot S&D (uses different scanning techniques to above 3 - just as double check. Also keeps spyware out) + Firefox I run these occasionally (maybe once a month or less) it usually picks up a couple. My 98SE website computer (which only I use) has the same as above excpet Microsoft's one. I don't get any spyware; none of the scans ever reveal any pieces of spyware Share this post Link to post
