Rush interactive shut down

The following is the E-Mail message I recieved informing me of the closure of the Rush interactive forums:

 

Dear Registered Member of the Rush Interactive Network,

 

We wish we could have done more but we finally ran out of options. The Rush Interactive Network will exist in other ways, as we will still focus our energies on promoting awareness for charities like the Autism Society of America, Guitars for Life, The Toronto Hospital for Sick Kids and The National AIDS Marathon Training Program and soon we will begin our efforts for Live 8 and Make Poverty History.

 

We will be updating our front page at http://www.therushinteractive.net to reflect these changes shortly; also our evolutionary music section will be evolving and may now be accessed directly by visiting http://www.evolutionarymusic.com

 

In a nutshell the justification for what has happened to us is often stated as follows. We were too strict and we block over 50,000 Rush fans from participating on our message boards without provocation, (funny but there are only some 25,000 Rush fans who have visited online forums and 14,000 who do so regularly and another 35,000 that do neither but have signed up for various newsletters) we also seem to have the ability to shut down websites and people’s ISPs without any justification whatsoever. Apparently there is an endless stream of testimonials proving this – but then again – it doesn’t take much to get a testimonial these days, it’s about the price of a can of domestic beer and a placating friendship.

 

When criminal activity resulted in injury (generally those items listed under the terms of service (TOS) with ISPs and other online services) such as threatening emails, sexual abuses, defamation, libel or server based threats such as denial of service attacks could be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, we have shut down websites, closed email accounts and we have succeeded in having at least one ISP service terminate a users account. But try doing it without empirical evidence, if there is any measure of doubt it is impossible, there has to be absolute proof. ISPs will not take any action unless they are presented with evidence that will hold up against cross examination.

 

Free speech does not apply to harassment, libel and defamation and when it has taken place publicly and we have had proof and a verified source network we have reported the abuse, but verifying the source network is rare since most of these events take place behind proxy servers and most ISPs will do very little unless the complaining party has access to the server logs where the event took place. We have had success stopping harassment when it comes from company and corporate networks, since they too operate under the same guidelines that govern our organization in regards to ethics and Internet abuse.

 

So that leaves the final justification, we were too strict and we banned thousands upon thousands of fans from participating on our message board for nothing. Even though it is not true, I would like to proceed from this point as if it were. Consider that as our crime and read on.

 

Just to set the record straight, in the ten years we have existed online we have never been involved in any illegal acts, legal battles or proceedings involving the courts. Should such information cross your path someday we'd like you to know, it is the fabrication of two ruthless people, who used it to make others believe that what they have done to us leading up to this day was legal. Aided with the use of a malicious, libelous and defamatory letter written by an attorney they pulled off their charade never ever having a legal leg to stand on, and no one not ISP, host provider or law enforcement agency including local, county, state or federal agencies, would lift a finger to stop them because there wasn't enough money involved, that is for the exception of one - EV1 Servers shut them down for dDoS attacks against our server in 2003. For five years they have paraded their successes and legal battles against us without ever spending a microsecond before anything more than the court of public opinion.

 

Once they discovered that the lawlessness of the Internet could work to their advantage, they veiled their illegal activities under the guise of lawsuits so that fans would get involved in their unconscionable acts and with an unlimited supply of proxy servers, free email addresses and armed with their twisted version of The First Amendment, they still remain unstoppable and at large.

 

Five years of working fans up into froth over their lawsuits that never existed, creating an atmosphere for this site so filled mistrust and hatred that you must suspend belief to comprehend.

 

We cannot continue with the never ending undermining, defamation and harassment that plagues us. So there you have it, share this with everyone. All you have to do to destroy someone’s hard work and dedication is to destroy them publicly with as many untruths as you can, turn revenge fantasies into a reality show, prey on people's weaknesses and their eagerness to condemn a boogieman to stone and you can destroy at will amidst jeers of thundering applause. That is what too many people want, as if there isn't enough of it already saturating the airwaves and our lives.

 

With this vacancy sign there is nothing left for those of us who wanted something more.

 

I wish it wasn't so... but that's how it is and that's how it came to be after five horrifying years of relentless provocation, stalking, torment and fear.

 

There is no safe harbor on the web for a place like this. Raptor, SLynn and MP are just three people and they can't defend the oasis anymore. There are just too many who hate us for what TRI-NET has now died for. It wasn't enough to share in what we had here, instead too many felt entitled to ruin us, because we refuse to be live like the rest, no matter what they say.

 

We don't want to go, but we don't have any means of protecting ourselves from malcontents who will not be satisfied until the three of us are completely dehumanized or we are dead. With all the other Internet crimes ongoing, turning any attention away from the criminals pursuing our children and our bank accounts is out of the question, so our situation is a grim one.

 

We have no choice but to sacrifice our vision and dreams to the emptiness of tragic loss, in hopes that we might find what we have lost of ourselves throughout this ordeal.

 

For those of you who have come to know victims as screaming vigilantes, take this to heart - we have been victimized for half a decade but not once in all that time did we ask any of our members to pick up any pitchforks for us.

The Evolutionary Music section will remain for that is where the true purpose of this site resides. We will no longer provide message board services.

 

We are not the first to be confronted with this choice, the very same people plagued the National Midnight Star <http://www.nmsmirror.com> and closed RUSH.NET and GEDDYLEE.NET.

 

Like Anthem we will also continue our work with Rush but in a different way. In that regard the untruths have failed. Rush and Anthem believe in us and although it's been said with the cruelest intentions that we are so close to Anthem we might as well be Anthem, it is an understatement, Rush and their management call your three admins family.

 

For those of you we have grown to love and trust, we will be in touch.

 

She was a fine ship and she had so much more to give, but our last precious stronghold has fallen.

People who do that sort of thing really deserve no place in this world. I dont know if the people who caused all that trouble are anythreat to the C&C community, but we must be aware of our surroundings at all times.

It has been a sad day indeed, as we tip our hats (those dedicated RUSH fans who like C&C) and give a moment of silence, we can only pray that the people involved in this scam are stopped before they can plague the C&C network with their malicious intent and knowledge.

lol, I got a virus from another forum and I had to go safety mood and crap. :x and it still didn't get deleted, but now its magically dissappeared.

Yup... It magical came back with 99 more infected files!

 

I could clean alot of them, but deleted some, I don't know if I deleted good files. Always can install XP again if I need it.
