A little advise

Recommended Posts

Now that I got a job and stuff, I am going to upgrade my PC, I can choose 2 things and I am not sure which to pick.

Option 1: Another GB of RAM, I got 1GB Kingston 3200 PC RAM and I can get another GB.

Option 2: My 9800 Pro Atlantis can be replaced by the Asus V9999GE Geforce 6800 256Mb, DVI, TVo, AGP, it has 256 MB and DDR3 so I think its alot faster.

Which do you think I should go for?

I say get a new video card. 2GB of ram seems excessive.

I would go with the new video card. You don't need 2 GB of RAM. You only need 1 GB of good quality DDR Ram these days.

Maybe one day when your running the next version of Windows (EG Longhorn) but not now.

Yeah go for the vid.

At least your have a good comp. This new stuff (longhorn 64 bit processing) is gona tear the **** outa my comp

Got a question for all you techies out there:

Game consoles all seem to run games perfectly, with very few exceptions. So why cant computers be made to do the same. One Vision. One purpose. One solid PC platform for gaming.

Because you can't upgrade a PS2 or an Xbox.. With the exception of a HD... So they're all the same.

You can't say that for the computer market peoples computers vary in technical specs. Having a general one "solid PC platform" won't work as it would be constanly being upgraded as new technology came along. So people won't be able to keep up.

ummmm u can upp a X-Box.... its basicly a pc in a crappy box. There are moders who strip down a X-box and stick in a new graphics card and hard drives with like 80+ games preloaded.

then answer this one. Every week theres a new computer or three on the market, whereas it takes years before a new game system hits the market. I know the comps are years in the making.

Also, how can comps be like $2000 yet the game systems are only $150?? I know the comps are way better, but with a little tinkering and maybe $500 you can turn your X-Box into a decent comp. So why are comps so damn expensive !?!??!

Due to economies of scale.

They manufacture million's of XBoxes, Gamecubes etc... whereas they manufacture a few 100 computers, it's very rare to find computers the same as they're usually custom-built.

That's why they're more expensive; you're paying for the specs you want; not what Nintendo gives you.

I think you are slightly wrong, while it is true that I have seen far more Cubes on a shelf than any one model of comp, as far as custom built ones, I know one person (in the flesh) that has a custom comp. Every one else is manufactured standard, and whatever upgrades were done by themselves

1. I'm 17, you need to be 18 where I come from to drive a car

2. A car costs a little more then 200 bucks

3. I'm asking your advice on my computer, not that I should buy a car

Personally, I think Longhorn wasnt a ggod name. But Vista.....for 64 bit processing.....sounds lame, if you ask me.
