This is an official Beta Screenshot from Westwood. The comm center was replaced by the radar dome at pretty much the last moment.

 

The effects you see are typical Westwood Studios. Screenshots were always Photoshopped and edited in many ways to add atmosphere to a picture. If you check out any of the concept shots from any of the C&C games, you'll notice the same as the above picture.

Owning Primas official strategy guide to RA2 - I can tlel you that there was a large transport copter not used and a hero unit carrying a pair of knives. this appears to be something similar happening.

Even before I started playing Red Alert 2 I knew there were such a thing as 'concept sketches' and 'dropping things last minute' :wink: This is bearing in mind that RA2 was my first ever CnC game, and my first ever 'real' computer game. :wink:

That "large transport helicopter' happens to still be in the game. The Hind. Just with a few things, such as tech lvl 1, and having the wrong rotors put on it. Other than that, its still perfectly usable.

 

Those TS pictures, with the Nod mammys and the early Orcas and the advanced recon bikes.....We all knew those were prototype pics even when they were on the box. Cause Westwood said so

That large transport copter was the Hind, and it was supposed to be a Carryall.

 

There never was a hero with knives. That was Ivan's concept weapon for infantry.

Ivan had more of a stealth role like the SEAL did in the early stages. Think silent commando here.
