Cygnus X-1 12 Posted November 29, 2005 So 2% of all rap is good, as opposed to 2% of other music being bad needs to be the majority here. And Rap is still not music. Anyone can do it. I walk down the hallway on a friday afternoon and I can hear 15 differnet rap "songs" being rapped, and ill be damned if i know who's doing it, its a diff person every time, yet it all sounds the same... plus those rappers who ripped of AC/DC, Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, among others that I really really hate. GeneralZ 0 Posted November 29, 2005 see any real musical talent in rap? Nope Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted November 30, 2005 / we covered that already  / now if you want some REAL music, there are an almost infinite number of relatively "good" bands out there. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted November 30, 2005 well there is no argueing with you guys. you cant get it into your heads that rap is not ALL crap. there is still good rap out there which makes rap, as music, somewhat respectable. also when someone said "RAP ISN'T MUSIC because its NOT ART," they must not have been thinking of the true meaning of ART. THE PURPOSE OF ART IS EITHER TO EXPRESS SOMETHING FROM THE ARTIST, OR TO INSPIRE THE OBSERVER...whatever i know you will all disagree no matter what i say...ONE music genre i like is RAP. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted November 30, 2005 well thats fine if you like Rap. But the general consensus is that it is not really "music" art maybe, with sounds, but not music. Study music for a bit. You'll see what i mean. There is no musical talent in rap. You ask a rapper what the circle of 5ths is, and hes like "So how big are those rims again ?" (only in rap-speak) Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted November 30, 2005 You ask a rapper what the circle of 5ths is, and hes like "So how big are those rims again ?" (only in rap-speak) That is pretty good Cygnus  But yeah- I can buy that maybe there's some rap out there that's legitimate "art," but it's kinda like bigfoot, ufos, or the Loch Ness monster... I can maybe believe the possibility that they exist, but let's see some pictures first  Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted November 30, 2005 or better yet, hear some samples first. No rapper I have ever heard of can play a musical instrument, and even if there was a good rap song (a distintly improbable occurance) no rapper would ever be consistent with good music. Want proof ? look at all that is out there now...... then look at bands like Metalica and Rush who have been playing for decades, still releasing albums, still sellout shows on 5 continents keep in mind these shows have upwards of 15,000 people at each venue, as opposed to the rapers, who maybe get 2000 Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 1, 2005 word. but thats because rock is more popular in the US. you guys are right that most good rappers do not always have consistent success in creating great music peaces. although like i said there are rappers out there that know alot about music, its history, and its assets. im sure there isa rapper who knows how to play an instrument. its sorta funny how people think rappers are all unintelligeable, shallow gangsters/thugs. those are the ones that are almost always the worst. well besides rap i like freestyles (105KTU in NYC), trance/dance, rock(piky tho), and just whatever sounds good and evokes something in me. back on the topic of new york...its such a diverse and well-roundedly tasteful place (aside from the plagues of rudeness and stupidity). I love living in new york; i think everyone should visit NYC at least once in their life. PS-did anyone ever see a movie on HBO called Subway Stories that was about people in NYC subways....HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT Share this post Link to post
Mr_Lee_ 0 Posted December 1, 2005 word. but thats because rock is more popular in the US. Why did Kerrang, the bastion of all american music, suddenly get Rap on there, and every otgher channel owned by american people is now showing some generic guy rapping about some generic subject. its sorta funny how people think rappers are all unintelligeable, shallow gangsters/thugs. those are the ones that are almost always the worst. With names like TALIB KWELI, PAPOOSE, do you wonder why we're saying these thing? They sound like things you put in your washing machine to enhance those 'whiter than white' clothes. Benzino being the worst one. "You too can make your car sparkle like the ocean when you use amazing Benzino car polish." Talent, is quite hard to find these days and its why I find that I'm constantly returning to old songs and old artists. People like Puink Floyd, the pioneers of Electronic music, and the glamourous Queen have shown talent really does make success, thats why Rappers will never prosper. Share this post Link to post

Mr_Lee_ 0 Posted December 1, 2005 so your saying that talib kweli's name sounds like maybe a joke? well im sure thats his real name..and correct me if im wrong i think he's muslim. Not a religious joke, I was commenting on how a lot of their names sound like soap powders, not slurring their origins. I'm not racist, I just like to create comparisons between rappers names and household brands. Like Eminen also being M&Ms, a type of sweet. but HOW CAN YOU INSULT THEM AND MAKE FUN OF THEM BASED ON THEIR NAME? i didn't think such a dumb move would be made. Its hard to miss name calling with the last name 'Pratt', just ask Acerz, and I'm sure he'll tell you. As will BWare probably, and many others. Name calling is the simplest form of insulting, and in this case, one of the most effective. also, i like those artists you named.i'd love if you guys heard maybe cormega...would smack all of you in the face and you'd be like man rap does have something to it. Comerga, as I recall, wasn't he feuding with Nas not too long ago? Real responsible guy who should wake up, like the rest of them, and see that their rap wars don't generate publicity, they generate resentment. oh and CNCKing...is that an insult to Tupac...? i'd like to hear one of you insult him...did any of you ever read his poetry book? Oh, oh, pick me...yes, I did read the book. It says a lot for someone when their biggest break comes when they're dead. Just look at Nirvana...I hate the way dead people make more money than everyone else. Share this post Link to post

Name calling is the simplest form of insulting, and in this case, one of the most effective. or a last name like Chauvin see what a bunch of rockers have done is shortened any "unreasonably" long names, like Alex Lifesons and Geddy Lee. I couldnt spell their real names to save my life, but hell Im glad that Lee and Lifeson are much much shorter. and as for 2Pac-sure I might have respected him, except that he was shot by a gansta, and guess what kinda people he hung out with. Yeah, other gansters. No surprise. Hey if a rapper can play a musical instrument, then Great ! But the question, why dont they ? hmm........... Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted December 1, 2005 oh and CNCKing...is that an insult to Tupac...? i'd like to hear one of you insult him... Okay! Tupac sucks. i'd love if you guys heard maybe cormega...would smack all of you in the face and you'd be like man rap does have something to it. Doubt it. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 2, 2005 ok then so go online or if you have the audacity go buy tupac's poetry book..he definitely writes better poetry than any of you here...and also....i cormega would surprise all of you ...but you would all still like it plainly because it's "rap".... yes Mr. Lee his book was not extraordinary but it was moving to millions....and cormega has long been over feuding with nas....just look at his new album....o and why don't rappers play instruments? why dont the lead singers of rock bands play intruments?.....some people can make bettter sounds with their mouth...it is an instrument you know. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted December 2, 2005 why dont the lead singers of rock bands play intruments? thank you for proving a point. Lead singers of Rock music DO play instruments. Many many of htem do. Do you know why? Because it enhances their music. Angus Young, one of the best guitar players ever (AC/DC) is also the lead singer Brad Delp, lead singer for Boston, has been known to play guitar as well as sing Every last member of STYX does vocals, and they all play instruments, with Denis DeYoug (keyboards, vocals, synthesizers) and Tommy Shaw (Acoustic adn electric guitars, synthesizers and vocals) being the main Styx Lead singers David Lee Roth of Van Halen did not play an instrument, however, their replacement vocalist, Sammy Hagar, does indeed play guitar Elton John, execelent pianist, along with Billy Joel, also very talented pianists both are lead singers for their respective groups REO Speedwagon's lead singer, Kevin Cronin also plays guitar for REO (now to save the best for last) Rush-Geddy Lee, world ranked # 1 bassist, as well as keyboards, synthesizers, foot pedal synth, and bass pedal synth, mandolin, 6 and 12 string guitar, mini moog, is the lead singer for RUSH and has one of the best voices Rock has ever heard. May I remind you that he is still playing and singing (foot pedals, singing, and alternating Bass, guitar, and keys all at once) and still selling out like crazy around the world with Rush. so I would have to say that you are wrong, many many rock lead singers also play instruments as well. and as for rappers, so what if they cant play and sing at the same time, use over dubs and record the rapper playing the instrument, then lay the vocals down on the tracking  Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 2, 2005 some may actually play intruments i dont know...im sure there are rappers that are capable....and there are definitely groups out there that rap and have a band...and what i have to say to BWare about not wanting to listen to what Cormega has to say or insulting Tupac...It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it-Aristotle Share this post Link to post

Rappers are, in general, talentless, lazy thugs whose degenerative and frankly evil lifestyle is appealing to their base. Tupac... honestly I don't know much about him, and frankly I don't really care to. But can someone explain why even people who hate rap have respect for him? I've never been able to figure that one out. Oh, and quoting Aristotle to defend rap.... that's just classic  ok then so go online or if you have the audacity go buy tupac's poetry book..he definitely writes better poetry than any of you here Did I ever claim to be able to write poetry? Just because he's good at that doesn't really prove anything... and the fact that it "moved millions?" Hitler's Mein Kampf moved millions as well. The whole point here is that rap is just not a legitimate form of music. It can be incorporated musically to good effect, but alone, and as a genre, it's just a joke. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 2, 2005 well i respect your opinion and i wasn't owned....rap is not exactly a genre...but hip-hop is....this is most probably my last comment on the topic. It saddens me that people are so completely against the genres when they know nothing about it. Grow up and accept hip-hop as a genre because it is IN FACT a music genre. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted December 2, 2005 Let's hear an actual defense of it, and maybe you'll sway me. I'm not entirely closed-minded to it... what I have is my own personal analysis, and you have yours. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 2, 2005 yes BWare i love you lol only because you demand as much as i will always...but i have given as much as necessary to carry this argument...i can totally bring it to many levels but it is not neccessary...BWare and everyone have valid points..but you can verifiably not deny my claims Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 2, 2005 The fact that Tupac can write a book of poetry better than any of you proves that he has a better ARTISTIC and possibly a better MUSICAL understanding than any of you. Tupac wrote a simple poetic book that moved MANY. That is a fact. It CANNOT be denied.regardless our opinions. i can go on forever about this subject but...don't want to carry on...as many philosophers say 'don't worry about insignificant matters.' as for the original subject...HOW WAS NYC BWare?????????????? what do you think of what you have seen/experienced? anything learned/corrected? oh LMAO it is very classic to quote aristotle in defense of rap because what he said is true lol....ima rebel at heart sorry for all the controversy Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 2, 2005 BWare download American Beauty by Cormega(spelling[not because of rap]).then tell me what it means. then figure out what hip-hop means truthfully lol PLAYED 8) . Share this post Link to post
